- GUPPIES WIN GAME TWO,
10-2 OVER THE BIOHAZARD -
09/03/03 - The Killingworth Guppies continue to roll this Summer season
winning their 8th straight game in convincing fashion. Game two of the
Guppies and Biohazard three game series was all Guppies from the drop
of the puck. Dan Pequita (2-3-5) would start the scoring for the Guppies
early in the first half. Mid way through the first Tim Poulin (3-2-5)
would bury a Pequita pass for the 2-0 lead. Moments later Poulin would
again score to make it 3-0. Late in the First the Biohazard showed some
life as Corkum would score twice in a matter of seconds to make it a one
goal game. With just under two minutes remaining in the half, Brian Kelly
(2-1-3) would score off of a great feed by Rob Murphy (1-2-3). The Guppies
would add to their two goal lead later in the Second when Marc Crayton
(1-2-3) beat the Biohazard netminder low to the left side. Pequita would
score his second of the night only :37 seconds later to put the Hazard
on their heals. Kelly would make it 7-2 when Dave Armenia (0-1-1) clear
out the Hazard defense in front of the net allowing Kelly to walk in alone.
Again, seconds later (:29) the Guppies would strike again as Tom Mierkiewicz
(1-0-1) bury a shot from the tops of the circles. It was Tom's first goal
in his new # 7 Guppies jersey (see below). With the score 8-2 the Biohazard
stepped up their game and Joe Linskey was up to the task. First stopping
and shot with his toe and then shutting down the Hazard's top player on
a breakaway, with an amazing glove save. Late in the Second Murphy would
finish a two on one with Kelly for his first goal of the night. With just
over two minutes left Poulin would finish the Hat trick. The Guppies finish
up their three game series with the Biohazard next Wednesday at 9pm. Seats
are still available at the Zrink box office.
SIDENOTES:
- You guessed it, Brendan Leahy was a healthy scratch last night.
- Guppies in the Community: Rob Murphy was late to last night's game because
he was attending a fund raising event for the Glastonbury Police Department.
- The Guppies looked good on the ice and off last night as the team's
new jerseys were in. Mierkiewicz, Poulin, and Pequita received their team
jerseys before last night's game. Tom Mierkiewicz fought off the tears
as he put on his new # 7 jersey on for the first time.
- Tardy- Some of the Guppies faithful were very late to Wednesday nights
game. Mike and Scott Mierkiewicz were very upset to find out that they
had missed the game when they pulled into the Zrink parking lot at 930pm.
However, several Guppy players were willing to meet the pair and talk
to them after the game. Also, the Guppies management gave them both free
tickets to next weeks game.
