Official Press Release

- GUPPIES WIN AGAIN!! OUTLASTING THE BIOHAZARD 7-3 -

8/27/03- The Killingworth Guppies faced off Wednesday night against their B-League nemesis the Biohazard. The Biohazard our one of only two teams ever to beat our beloved fish since their move to the Zrink in 2002. It's a memory that drives the Gupps every time they faceoff against the Hazard, including last night. The Guppies jumped to a quick one goal lead as Tim Poulin (4-0-4) buried a Marc Crayton (0-3-3) pass twenty one seconds into the game. The Guppies would strike again when a fore checking Dave Armenia (0-1-1) created a turn over in the Biohazard's zone which led to Brian Kelly's (2-1-3) first goal of the night. Moments later the Biohazard would make it a one goal game when K. Bartos fired a shot that eluded Joe Linskey. Both teams maintained a fast pace while gaining several excellent scoring opportunities. Poulin would give the Guppies a little more room heading into the half, scoring his second of the night with time winding down. To start the Second Half the Biohazard's Tomczyk tapped in a Linskey rebound to make it a one goal game. Again Poulin answered, scoring the Hat Trick and giving the Guppies another two goal lead. The Biohazard refused to go away as Healey scored to make it 4-3. With the Guppies and the Biohazard becoming tired from the pace of the game things became more physical. John Carroll and Tom Mierkiewicz (1-0-1) both stepped up the physical play in the second. Which lead to several Guppy opportunities and frustrated the Biohazard. Kelly and Poulin would score again late in the the half to secure the Guppies victory. However, the final nail in the coffin was when Mierkiewicz scored off of a rebound with just over two minutes left in the game. The Guppies and the Biohazard play game 2 of the their 3 game series next week at 8:00pm. Plenty of good seat available as well as game packages that give you a reduced rate for the remainder of the three game series.
