- KILLINGWORTH CONTINUES TO ROLL, HOLDING
BACK THE BIOHAZARD 8-2! -
8/6/03- The Killingworth Guppies are back in the zone and rolling the
competition again. The Guppies have won their fourth straight game and
continue to add to their impressive 35-4-0 record at the Zrink. Wednesday
Night the Gupps faced off against a Biohazard team that had already played
one game that night and had seemed to multiply since the last time the
played the Guppies. The Hazard would strike first on the Power play when
Rob Murphy (1-1-2) deflected a shot off his hand and past Joseph Linskey
(0-1-1). Tim Poulin (2-1-3) would tie the score at one beating the BioHazard
netminder to the near side. Less than a minute later the Biohazard would
again take a one goal lead when another point shot eluded Linskey. Down
by one late in the First Half the Guppies turned it up. The Rookie Dan
Pequita (3-2-5) scored his first of the night to even the score at two
apiece. A few seconds later Brian Kelly (2-2-4) would win an offensive
face-off and go into score the go ahead goal. The Guppies continued to
pour it on late in the first when Poulin buried a pass from Pequita with
just over a minute left. At the Half the Guppies had a solid 4-2 lead
but the Guppies continued to add to it in the Second. Pequita scored his
second of the night as Poulin return the favor. The Gupps would strike
again ten minutes later when Kelly buried a pass from Murphy. The Guppies
continued to control the play in the Second Half as Pequita finished his
Hat Trick on a great individual effort. Soon after the Pequita goal there
was some turmoil on the Guppies bench as Marc Crayton refused to come
off the Dek after a two minute shift. Murphy sat to allow Crayton to play,
Crayton's shift figured to be near 4 minutes by the time he eventually
came off. "It's a really embarrassment to the team and to Marc himself"
stated Guppies Assistant Captain John Carroll "I'm not sure what
kind of reprimands will be handed down" The confusion of what Crayton
was trying to do stunned many Guppies players "I guess he feels he
more important than anyone on the team" explained a confused Rob
Murphy. An unidentified on ice official was quoted as saying "I didn't
care who was on the ice and who was off, lets just get this game going".
In the end it worked out for Murphy who would score his 9th goal of the
season of a pass from Pequita. The Guppies face off next week at 9pm vs
the Knights. Tickets are still available at the Z-rink box office, but
please call ahead.
