Official Press Release

- GUPPIES COMPLETE THE PERFECT REGULAR SEASON BEATING THE KNIGHTS 13-4 -

9/17/03 - The Killingworth Guppies have done it before but its always nice to do it again, Going undefeated in the Regular Season for the third time(2002; 2002-03) in Team history. The Gupps had already secured first place and a bye to Game 1 of the Summer 2003 B-League finals but that wasn't good enough. They wanted to be 10-0 heading into the Finals. Dave Armenia (1-0-0) started the Guppies off on the right track when he slid a fluttering shot into the Knight's net. A few minutes later the Knights would even the score at one. Dan Pequita (1-3-4) would regain the Guppies lead when he finished a shot from the top of the left face off circle. The Guppies continued to keep the pressure on when John Carroll (0-2-2) sent in Brian Kelly (3-3-6) for the score. Tim Poulin (5-2-7) showed up late but when he got to the rink he put on a show scoring his first of the night to give the Guppies the 4-1 lead. The Knights would make it 4-2 when Rob Murphy (1-1-2) finished the first half with a nice goal from Poulin. Early in the second the Knights again tried to make it a game as Zuba scored his first of the night. However at that point Poulin, Crayton, and Pequita took over and lead the Guppies offense. The trio set up and scored the next four Guppies goals making 9-2 before the Knights knew what hit them. Joe Linskey was solid in the net making some incredible saves that had the Knights bewildered. At several points in the game the Knights were all over the Guppies but Linskey was the difference. Tom Mierkiewicz (0-2-2) continued to man handle the Knights forward before setting up two Guppie goals late in the game. The Guppies would go on to the 13-4 win and the perfect season but they realize there is more work to do "We haven't won anything yet" stated Gupps Assistant Captain John Carroll "the real season starts on Sunday". The Guppies have earned a bye to the Summer 2003 B-League final series (best of 3). Game one is on Sunday September 21 at 520pm. The Guppies will face off against the winner of the Semi-finals game between the Biohazard and the Knights scheduled for Sunday Morning at 10:20am.
