Guppies Leave the BluBaz Hurting; Win 5-4

Glastonbury, CT April 21, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2004 season.

4/21/04 - The Killingworth Guppies faced off  Wednesday night vs the Blubaz in a late night match up at the Z. The Guppies would score first as Tim Poulin (0-1-1) skated out of the corner to the side of the Blubaz net. His shot would be blocked but Marc Crayton (2-0-2) was there to pick up the garbage. The Baz would tie the score at one when they beat Linskey on a nice shot. Brian Kelly (2-0-2)would give the Guppies the lead again on a great individual play in which he stepped around the Baz defense and roofed a shot over the goalie's glove. The Guppies would out shoot the Blubaz 13 - 5 in the first half but only had the one goal lead to show for it.

In the second the Blubaz would score early to tie the game at two. The action continued end to end with several great saves by both goalies. Linskey was on his game and it was frustrating the Blubaz offense. Kelly would give the Gupps another lead when he won a offensive zone faceoff and then beat the Blubaz netminder through the five hole. Crayton would add to the Guppies lead, when he finished a great pass from Dan Pequita (1-1-2), burying the ball into the lower left corner of the net. The Blubaz would score again to get into striking distance of the Guppies lead. With the score 4-3 with a little over  8 minutes left in the game, Kelly was called for a Roughing 5 minute major. During the Blubaz power play Pequita would score from center ice as he dumped the puck into the zone. The Baz would score one goal on the power play and continued the heat on the Guppies. With 5.4 seconds left in the game Joe Linskey made the save of the night stopping a shot on the goal line. Poulin and Jason Zito would kill the remaining seconds to give the Guppies the win.
