Official Press Release

Guppies Tame Panthers 10-3 In Season Opener

Glastonbury, CT March 31, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2004 season.

3/31/04- The Killingworth Guppies opened their 2004 Spring season Wednesday Night vs a strong Panthers team. The Guppies looked as if they had taken a couple of seasons off as they had trouble controlling the play early. Rob Murphy (2-2-4) would start the Guppies scoring in 04 when he walked in alone and rifled a shot past the Panthers netminder. The Panthers would tie the score only seconds later when a Guppies defensive lapse lead to a Panthers breakaway. A few minutes later the Gupps would again gain the lead when Dan Pequita (3-0-3) bury a pass from Tim Poulin (2-3-5). Marc Crayton (1-1-2) would add to the Guppies lead when he tapped in a pass from Murphy and Poulin. The Panthers would cut the lead in half before Jason Zito (1-2-3) finished a pass from Brian Mulcahy (0-2-2) to end the first half.

In the Second Half the Guppies continued to roll as John Carroll (1-0-1) scored his first of the season beating the Panther's goalie through the five hole. Joe Linskey was solid in the second half after looking shaky early in the first. Linskey turned away several odd man chances for the Panthers. The Guppies continued to pressure the Panthers net as Murphy, Pequita, and Poulin added second half tallies. The Guppies defense was questionable for most of the game as the Guppies ran a 3-1 fore check. "It's not a system that we really want to run" stated Marc Crayton "It just seemed to develop as the game went on....I don't expect to see it next week against the Whalers". The Guppies play next week at 11:00pm in a late night affair against the before mentioned Whalers. Tickets will be Half price and seats are still available.
