Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT August 7, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.
08/07/2008- When the Guppies normally face off against the Fire Ants one thing is for certain, The Fire Ants have a stacked team and they are ready to play. However, Thursday night the opposite was the case. There were only three Fire Ants regulars and then a bunch of players from other teams. The Guppies looked at the pieced together Ants squad and figured they might be in for an easy night .....Guess again! The Gupps would take the lead first as Brian Kelly (4-3-7) scored two early goals. However, as the Ants scored on their third shot of the game, a sign of things to come for the Fish and Joe Linskey. The Ants scored again to tie the game at two. The Guppies looked to pull away as Keith Millen (6-3-9) scored his first two goals of the game to give the Guppies the 4-2 lead. Again it was the play of Linskey that allowed the Fire Ants back into the game. "Joe was brutal tonight" stated one Guppies player. It's true for as great as Joe played in recent weeks he was just as bad Thursday night. Linskey was hard on himself in the post game interview "I normally ask (Dave) Armenia if he wants to play net most nights. Tonight I was actually hoping he'd take me up on the offer". Luckily for Linskey Killingworth's offense was firing on all cylinders. Jason Zito (2-3-5) scored midway through the Half to increase the Guppies lead 5-3! The Guppies would score two more goals before the end of the half, one of which was a possible because of a great individual play by Zito which lead to Marc Crayton's (2-1-3) first goal of the game. At the Half the Guppies held onto a slim 7-6 lead despite Dominating the play.
To start the Second Half the Fire Ants would come out and tie the score at 7, as Linskey continued to struggle. Midway through the half the calvary came to the Guppies rescue as Kelly, Crayton, and Millen combined to score the next four goals of the game. The offensive explosion gave the Guppies some much needed breathing room. The Fire Ant's Chase Decker single handily kept his team in the game, scoring 6 of his teams goals including all three of their second half goals. Despite Decker's heroics and Linskey's shaky play it wasn't enough! Zito and Millen rounded out the Guppies scoring and the Guppies skated to their 4th straight victory.
Next week the Guppies face off against Jimmy Stickhandle as both First Place and Guppie's pride is on the line. The last time these two teams met JS crushed a shorthanded Guppies team en route to the worst loss in Killingworth history.Game time is 7pm on 8/14. Tickets for this game are limited.
