Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT July 31, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.
07/31/2008- The Guppies seem to be swimming in the right direction these days as they skated to a convincing victory over House Brothers Thursday night. It started off a little rough as Joe Linskey (0-2-2) (23 saves, 25 shots) let up a goal on the first shot he faced. Of course the shot was a breakaway as both defenseman, Murphy and Kelly, were caught up ice. However, that's just details and the goal earns Linskey the honor of purchasing next weeks 30 pack. Thanks Joe!! Midway through the First half the Guppies got on the board as the "hot hand" of Keith Millen (3-0-3) keeps getting hotter. Tied at one some House Brother players felt the need to talk a little trash, which struck Guppies forward Marc Crayton as being a little odd "Normally you have to be winning a game to talk trash?" Crayton continued "On another note, What's up with Frank (the ref) handed out all the assists to Linskey? How about some #97 calls Frank?". The Guppies took the lead as Dan Pequita (1-3-4) scored off a pass from Mike Halle (0-2-2) and yes.....Joe Linskey. The Gupps took the 2-1 lead into the half. Despite only holding a one goal lead the Fish had controlled the tempo of the game.
In the Second, they continued to control the play. The Gupps blew open the game on one early shift as both Brian Kelly (1-1-2) and Brian Mulcahy (2-2-4) scored .31 seconds apart. With the commanding 4-1 lead the Guppies to seem to be on cruise control. Things seemed to get better as the Guppies went on the Power Play midway through the half. The Power Play yielded two shorthanded breakaway opportunities for the House Brothers. The First breakaway Linskey managed to stone the attacker. However, later in the PP Kelly sent a weak pass across the blue line which was picked off and resulted in the HB second breakaway which lead to the Brother's second goal. In the post game press conference a confused Linskey asked "What is it going to take to keep Kelly off the power play? He's messing up my GAA!". Any window of a HB come back was quickly slammed shut when Keith Millen scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season to give the Fish a 6-2 lead. House Brothers stepped up the chippy play late in the game as the Guppies tried to stare clear of a repeat performance of the last game between these teams. The Gupps put the game to bed when Halle, Crayton, and Mulcahy hooked up for a tic, tac, toe passing play that lead to Rello's second goal of the night.
The Guppies face off this Thursday night (8/7) against The Fire Ants (who else) at 8pm!
SIDE NOTES:
- Tim Poulin, Jon Stevenson, and Jason Zito were healthy scratches
- Rob Murphy will be in Myrtle Beach next week as he's participating in the "Tiger Woods Golf Camp for Guys Who Really Suck at Golf". If anyone has ever swung the wrenches with Murph before then you know TW has his work cut out for him. Marc Crayton, who attended the 2000 "TWGCGWRSG", said this about his experience "It was fun!".
- Thursday night's victory was the Guppies 149th regular season victory, improving their regular season record to 149-54-4 and overall recorded (regular season and playoffs) to 174-65-4. The Gupps will look for their 150th RS win and 175th Overall Win Thursday night against the Fire Ants.
