Guppies Step Over Blue Foot 6-4!

Glastonbury, CT July 24, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.

07/24/2008- The Guppies looked to continue their winning ways Thursday night as they faced off against Blue Foot. The Last time these two teams squared off the Guppies crushed a shorthanded BF team 11-3! However, in the rematch Blue Foot's bench was stocked and it would be a much closer game. BF scored first to take the 1-0 but the Guppie's Keith Millen (2-0-2) was quick to answer, scoring .59 seconds after the Blue Foot goal. Millen would score again a few minutes later on a low slap shoot that seemed to fool the BF's netminder. At on point, Millen was shooting 1,000! "Mills was scoring from everywhere tonight. I wish I knew how he does it" stated Guppies Forward Brian Kelly in a post game interview. Marc Crayton scored (yep, MARC CRAYTON!) Late in the first half to give the Guppies a commanding 3-1 lead. Obviously, we're talking about the Guppies and no lead is safe with the Fish! BF seemed to be aware of the Guppies issues with holding a lead and they tried to take advantage, scoring in the final minutes of the first half to make it a 3-2 Guppies Lead. In the final seconds of the First Half Blue Foot swarmed the Guppies net but netminder Andy Pettola made some spectacular saves to preserve the Gupps one goal lead.

In the Second, Blue Foot came out flying scoring early to tie the game at three! The Guppies looked to slow down and Pettola's night got busier as Blue Foot took control of the game. Midway through the half BF finally recaptured the lead, scoring to take the 4-3 lead. It wasn't until late in the Half that the Guppies were able to get their fins moving. It was Jon Stevenson (2-1-3) who lead the way scoring twice in a span of .59 seconds to give the Guppies the lead. "Jon had a great shift late in the half and it saved us" explained Dan Pequita.  Kelly would score a late goal to seal the deal and give the Guppies the 6-4 Win.

The Guppies face off against House Brothers next Thursday (7/31) at 8pm. There was some bad blood between these teams after their last game ended with the two teams scrapping. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail this Thursday. Good Tickets are still available.

SIDE NOTES:

- Tim Poulin, Brian Mulcahy and Mike Halle were healthy scratches

- The Guppies have gone two straight games without being called for a penalty. While it's great that the Gupps are playing so clean, it's really been making a dent in Keith Millen's wallet. Millen had to purchase this week's 30 pack for scoring the first goal in last weeks Guppies game. He also will receive the honor of purchasing the 30 pack next week as he scored the Guppies first goal Thursday night. Millen was quoted as saying "If someone else could score around here this wouldn't be a problem. However, at least when Linskey in net I have a 50/50 chance of not having to buy". Team rules state that if Linskey is scored against in the first three shots of a game he automatically has to buy the 30 pack for the follow weeks game. This rule, created in 2005, has cost Linskey his vacation home.
