Official Game Summary

Glastonbury, CT July10, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.

07/10/2008- Anyone who was at the ZRink this past Thursday night, as the Guppies faced off against Jimmy Stickhandle, must have walked out the door and said "Wow....What the Hell just happened in there?". The Killingworth Guppies, America's Favorite NonProfessional Sports Franchise, the heart and soul of the small town of Killingworth, CT, the SEVEN Time ZRink Champions (9 Total Championships), was just dismantled and embarrassed. There are the excuses....The Guppies were shorthanded with #1 netminder Joe Linskey out, defensemen Rob Murphy, Dan Pequita and Jason Zito out. The reffing was definitely not in the Guppies' favor, Jimmy Stickhandle had four power plays compared to the Guppies zero. This in a game where it seemed like both teams were swinging their sticks like it was a lumber jack convention!

It was awful for Guppie fans to watch!

So, How did this happen?  Guppies forward Tim Poulin "To be honest we kind of looked past these guys. It turns out they have a very good team and we didn't come to play". Guppies Marc Crayton "They jumped out and were all over us from the drop of the puck, I think they scored four goals in the first 7 minutes of the game".

Down 5-0 The Guppies tried to climb back into the game as Tim Poulin (1-0-1) and Jon Stevenson (1-0-1) score just over a minute apart. There seemed to be some life in the fish. However, another JS Power Play goal killed any Guppie momentum.

The Guppies need to regroup fast as they face off against the Fire Ant "Northeast Green" team next week. Game time is at 9pm! The Guppies will give free tickets to the first 100 fans that show up to the game.

SIDE NOTES:

- Rob Murphy, Dan Pequita, Jason Zito and Joe Linskey were healthy scratches Thursday night.

- Making history! In their 13 year history the Guppie's had never been mercied out of a game. Thursday night's loss was the worst loss in Guppies team history. Replacing the 10-2 loss the Gupps suffered on July 29, 2001, while playing at the Waterbury Dek Center, at the hands of the Juggernauts.

- August 14th at 8pm!! Mark it on your calendars. That's the rematch date for the the Guppies vs Jimmy Stickhandle!
