Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT June 26, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.
06/26/2008- Thursday Night the Guppies faced off against a skilled House Brothers team. However, the Fish took it to the Bros early on, opening up a two goal lead off of goals from Keith Millen (2-5-7) and Rob Murphy (3-2-5). Less than three minutes into the game and the Guppies were in control. Unfortunately for the Fish, when they get up early, they tend to mail it in. House Brothers game back and tied the game at two. Then the Teams traded goals before HB scored the next three goals to open up a 5-3 lead on the fish. The Guppies tried to swim back into the game but were swimming up river! Millen would score to make it 5-4 late in the First Half but, HB then went on to score two more goals before the end of the half. The Guppies found themselves being out played and down 7-4 as the buzzer sounded, bringing an end to the First.
The Guppies seemed to gain some momentum in the Second Half after Jason Zito (2-1-3) scored off a pretty passing play with Millen. House Brother's quickly took back their control of the game, beating Joe Linskey less than a minute after Zito's tally. Linskey struggled in the Guppies net after more than a month off and no pre game warm up. Up 8-5 midway through the second half, House Brother seemed to be in control. Some misfortune hit the HB bench when James House was called for his 3rd penalty of the game and force to leave. HB was short handed and the loss of House was a serious blow. Slowly, the Guppies swam back into the game. Zito scored his second goal of the game before Jon Stevenson (1-1-2) scored late to make it a one goal game. The Brothers tried to hold onto their one goal lead, before Rob Murphy scored to tie the game at eight with just 2:20 remaining. Just over a minute later Murphy worked his magic again, firing a rising slap shot from the left point, beating the HB netminder for the 9-8 lead. The Guppies would add a late goal to secure the victory before all hell broke loose. Murph was high sticked by a HB player, then the same player turned and attacked him. Brian Mulchay (1-1-2) came to Murphy's aide and scrapped with the HB opponent. As Reg Dunlop would say "He (Mulcahy) was defending the honor of Killingworth!".
The Guppies face off next Thursday night (7/3) against the Fire Ants at 8pm. Tickets for this game are on sale now at the Zrink and Killingworth Library. Come on out!
SIDE NOTES:
- Tim Poulin, Dave Armenia, and Marc Crayton were healthy scratches Thursday night.
- In or Out? Is Tim Poulin playing this season with the Killingworth Guppies? No one seems to know! Poulin hasn't been at the first two games and has yet to pay team dues. Look for the Guppies to add either Brian Mulcahy or Mike Halle to their full time roster if Poulin doesn't confirm soon.
- Brian Mulcahy earned 25 minutes in penalties Thursday night. The most ever for a Guppie's player in one game.
