Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT August 28, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2008 season.
08/28/2008- Sunday night the Guppies look to wrap up there regular season schedule with a cross over game against the Stars of the B/C League. Not only that the Guppies were hosting their annual "Family Night" as the Zrink was packed with Guppie faithful. The Gupps didn't let their fans down as they scored quick and often. Dan Pequita (3-1-4) started the scoring just over three minutes into the game. A little bit later, Keith Millen (3-1-4) would score his first goal of the game, which was also the game winner. To be honest, everyone in Guppies blue was racking up the points in what turned out to be a huge Stat night. Everyone that is, except Marc Crayton! Maybe it was the large crowd but the veteran forward fail to register a point or a penalty all night. The mood in the stands and on the bench was very upbeat as the Fish rattled off SEVEN First Half Goals. The Guppies at one point had more goals than the Stars had shots in the mismatched tilt.
In the Second, the Guppies continued to roll along with Rob Murphy (1-0-1) scoring the first goal of the half. Joe Linskey looked to be in great position to record his first Shut Out since the Spring of 2007 season. However, it was not to be! A Stars player poked a loose puck by Linskey's feet and into the net early in the half. With the Guppies up 8-1 some players, not Brian Kelly, were starting to take longer shifts. Meanwhile Mike Halle used the lead to try to score his first goal since the Summer 2006 season. Instead of scoring a goal, Mike took a high sticking penalty earning him the honor, yet again, to purchase the 30-pack for next week's game. Finally Dan Pequita scored the Gupps 11th goal of the game, ending the game with 6:03 remaining. The Win secured the Guppies second place finish in the league standings.
The Guppies open up the 2008 Summer Playoffs on Thursday August 28th vs House Brothers at 9pm. Playoff tickets go on sale on Tuesday morning. A limited amount of tickets are available but the team recently sign a deal with Stub Hub which means tickets will be available on the web site.
