Glastonbury, CT April 17, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2007 season.

04/17/2007- The guppies came out Tuesday night all fired up as they faced off against the Ants. The Guppies took control of the game quickly as Keith Millen (3-0-3) scored a minute and a half into the game.  Tim Poulin (1-2-3) would score about six minutes later after off a pass from Rob Murphy (0-2-2).  The Fish continued their attack and opened up a 3-0 lead when Millen scored his second of the night half way through the First. Up 3-0 things look very good in Guppies Land, but with the history between these two teams everyone knew this game was far from over. Late in the half the Fire Ants scored twice in just over a minute to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Guppies gave themselves some breathing room just before the half when Poulin setup Brian Kelly (1-1-2) for the 4-2 lead.

The Second Half  featured some great end to end hockey with the two teams trading opportunities. The Ants finally broke through when they scored to make it 4-3 with just over  five minutes remaining.  The Fire Ants fed on their new found life and score twice within a .30 second span to take a 5-4 lead. The Guppies rattled by how quickly the game got away from them called a timeout. With their back against the wall and the game quickly slipping from their Fins the Guppies swam  back and tied the game only .14 seconds later on Millen's third goal of the night.  Tied at 6-6 the two teams skated into OT.

In OT the Guppies were killing a holding penalty Millen took in the final seconds of regulation. Shorthanded the Guppies pressured the Ants. Poulin almost scored a short handed but missed a pass in the low slot. The Guppies killed off the penalty but Millen was called for a high sticking penalty only seconds after returning to the dek. The teams would skate to a tie in a hard fought effort.  The Guppies face off against the Ball Smashers Tuesday night at 8pm.

SIDE NOTES:

-Dan Pequita was a healthy scratch Tuesday night.

- Tuesday's tie was the first game the Guppies have tied in their Zrink history and their first tie since the summer of 2001

- Double Up! Poulin is on the 30pack again this week, making it two weeks in a row!  Nice work Timmy keep it up

- Advantage Out: The Guppies had no power play opportunities Tuesday night. In three games vs the Fire Ants that Guppies have yet to go on the power play.
