Official Press Release

Guppies Silence Thunder Bay 4-0!

Glastonbury, CT April 10, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2007 season.

04/10/2007- Tuesday night Killingworth and Thunder Bay stepped onto the dek tied for first place with 4-1-0 records for both teams. The Guppies had beaten Thunder Bay a few weeks earlier in what many considered a chippy game. However, that was nothing compared to what happened on this night. The game started off with a lot of neutral zone play. As both teams struggled to get the puck on net. TB seemed to get their feet first as they took control of the game, but Joe Linskey (0-1-1) was solid in the Guppies net. "Joe saved us early on" stated Dave Armenia in a post game interview. The Guppies would strike first when Tim Poulin (2-1-3) took  a pass from Keith Millen (2-1-3) and beat the TB netminder. Brian "Rello" Mulcahy made his way back into the line up Tuesday night but found it hard to stand on his skates.  Joe Linskey commented on Mulcahy's play "Rello was falling down everywhere tonight, I was starting to wonder not so much what if, but how much he drank before the game". The Guppies would take a 2-0 lead when Millen scored with just .23 second remaining in the half.

In the second, the Guppies took advantage of another power play as Poulin scored his second of the night just over a minute in. The Fish were very much in control at this point which led TB to increase their chippy play.  However, The Gupps just kept on swimming! It paid off, as Mulcahy (0-1-1) made a great pass to Millen to set up his second goal of the night. Up 4-0 and the game quickly becoming out of reach all hell broke loose! With 15:49 remaining, Tim Poulin took a face off....In a fight for the puck off the Face off . Poulin hit a TB player in the mouth causing him to chip his tooth. Both officials missed the call but play was stopped for the injured player. No penalty was called and the TB bench went nuts! Several of their players screamed at the Guppies bench calling the Fish "Dirty Players" however, their real anger was focused at the officials. To the officials credit, they didn't let their emotions get the best of them. The game was called and the Guppies were credited with the win.

The Guppies face off at a much more reasonable time next week, as they take on the Fire Ants. Game time is 7pm!! Tickets are sold out!! However, if you head down to Killingworth drive behind the public library and ask to speak to Vinny.....you can get some tickets.....but you didn't hear that from me!
