Glastonbury, CT March 20, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2007 season.

03/20/2007- The Guppies faced off Tuesday night against a young and fast Thunder Bay hockey club, who one week earlier had beaten up a stong Fire Ants hockey team. The only team the Guppies have lost to in this young season. TB would strike first and it was early, just .52 seconds into the game, to take the 1-0 lead.  The Guppies managed to turn the school around as Keith Millen (1-2-3) scored to tie the game at one. Only moments, later Marc Crayton (1-1-2) won a defensive zone face off which led to Dan Pequita (1-5-6) scoring his second goal of the season. ........ No, I'm serious!!  Crayton won a face off.......believe what you want! It's a true story!..... After Crayton's miracle win and Pequita's goal Thunder Bay went on a scoring rampage, netting the next four goals and taking the 5-2 lead. Down by three, the Guppies went on the power play and quickly converted as Brian Kelly (3-4-7) scored off a pass from Tim Poulin (2-3-5).  Then Jason Zito (2-1-3)  scored his first goal of the season to make it 5-4 with just under two minutes remaining in the half. The Gupps would suffer another hick-up which allowed TB to regain the 3 goal lead.  Kelly would score again late in the Half to make it a two goal game (7-5) at the break.

In the Second the Guppies fins were moving! Just .11 seconds into the half Tim Poulin would convert on a great pass from Millen. Thunder Bay would quickly answer the Gupps tally and regain the two goal lead only seconds later. Midway through the half Marc Crayton would score, shooting the puck over the sprawled TB netminder. "Crayton's goal sparked our comeback" stated Guppies defenseman Tim Poulin. Rob Murphy (1-1-2) continued the push when he fired a "Laser" from the point that eluded TB's goaltender Mike Mornyak. The Murphy tally tied the game at eight and really changed the current in the Guppies favor. Less than a minute later, Kelly would score his third of the night to give the Guppies the 9-8 lead. The Guppies continued to move forward as Zito scored his second goal of the night to give the fish their first multi-goal lead. Tim Poulin capped off the Guppies victory burying the cross rink pass from Kelly, which was by far the prettiest goal of the night. Down the stretch Thunder Bay had several good scoring opportunities to get themselves back into the game. However Guppies goaltender, Jon Graney, turned them aside again and again. The Guppies WIN  11-8!

Next week the Guppies face off against the Fire Ants,  Game Time is at 8pm. Tickets are still available. Also, next Tuesday is "Mingle w/Millen Night" in which you, the Guppies fans can meet and greet with Keith Millen at a special post game party. A limited amount of tickets are still available for this event.

SIDE NOTES:

-Brian Mulcahy was a healthy scratch. Fong is now in the early lead for the Brian Blair award...Congrats Bri!

-No Linskey? No Problem!  With Tuesday's win Jon Graney improved his Guppies record to 4-1-0!!  Marc Crayton might be worried about his famous tag line "The most winningest BACK-UP goalie in Guppies history".   Nice Job Jon!

- Dan Pequita scored his 100th goal in a Guppies uniform! joining Kelly, Murphy, Poulin, and Zito in the 100th Goal club!

- Just in....Brian Kelly is a "dirty" hockey player. Several Thunder Bay players insisted that the Guppie's Captain is a dirty player after he was given two minor penalties Tuesday night. A Warning to all opposing teams.....Heads up!
