Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT March 6, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2007 season.
03/06/2007- The 2007 season started off with a tough home opener for the Guppies as the squared up against the always strong Fire Ants organization. It was obvious in the warm ups that the fish would need a little time to get use to the water again. However, The Fire Ants turned up the temperature from the drop of the puck. Joe Linskey was equal to the task as the fish were grossly out shot in the first ten minutes of the game. Eventually the Ants were able to march in on the Guppies net minder and beat him three times in the first half for a solid 3-0 lead.
The Guppies started the Second Half on the penalty kill but it turned out to be the turning point in the game. Down by three and killing the latter seconds of the penalty Tim Poulin (3-1-4) found Brian Kelly (1-3-4) in the low slot. Kelly shot the puck into a wide open net. Guppies forward Dave Armenia "That was the worst shot I ever saw!" The Guppies continued to pour on the pressure as Rob Murphy (0-2-2) and Kelly moved the puck around finally finding Poulin on the far side of the Ants net. The Come back was in full swing as Poulin scored again to tie the game at three. Moments later Keith Millen (1-1-2), of "Millen Time" fame, scored his first of the season. The Guppies had their first lead of the night! The Fire Ants scored to tie the game at four, before Poulin scored his third of the game to give the fish the one goal lead again. To the Ants credit they never backed down and match the Guppies yet again. Dan Pequita (1-0-1) scored a shot to the upper left corner of the net to give the fish the lead yet again. The lead was short lived as the Ants scored only seconds later. The two teams skated to a 6-6 tie at the end of regulation.
In OT the Guppies controlled the play and had several strong scoring chances. However, with under two minutes remaining the Fire Ants converted on a 3-1 for the win! After the game the Guppies were upbeat "We really fell behind early and managed to get back into the game." stated Guppies forward Tim Poulin "We'll be fine, we just had to shake off some rust".
The Guppies are still awaiting the remainder of the schedule to come out. Once the official schedule is released, tickets will go on sale.
