Glastonbury, CT April 25, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2004 season.
4/25/04- The Guppies had their toughest test of the season on Sunday as the faced off against the Fireballs. The Guppies have never been a good team when playing in morning/Afternoon games on the weekends and the trend continued. The Guppies would fall behind by one when Boyle scored for the Fireballs. The Guppies would tie the game when Dan Pequita (2-0-2) would score off a pass from Tim Poulin (0-2-2). Jason Zito (2-1-3) would give the Guppies the lead when he beat the Fireballs netminder after receiving a pass from Mike Halle (0-1-1). Late in the first the Fireballs would score four unanswered goals (Blais, Tatum, Boyle, Tatum) giving them the 5-2 lead at the half. The Guppies had out shot the Fireballs in the first half but several defensive lapses cost our beloved fish.
In the Second Half the Guppies took it to the undermanned Fireballs. Robert Murphy (3-2-5) would start the Guppies come back as he buried a pass from Poulin at the 17:52 mark. Just over a minute later Zito would bury a goal that had the Fireball's goaltender confused. Murphy took the ball behind the net and made a drop pass to the short side where Zito banged it into the open net. Half way through the half Murphy would take a pass from Zito and score to tie the game at Five. Crayton had played solid for most of the Second half allowing the Guppies comeback. However, Sherwood would give the Fireballs the lead again when he beat Crayton at the 3:52 mark. Murphy would score his third of the game to tie the score with just over two minutes remaining. Late in the Half the Guppies pressed for the go ahead goal. In the final seconds Brian Kelly (0-2-2) picked up the ball on the Fireballs blue line, he faked a pass to Pequita and fire a shot. Off the rebound Pequita was able to bury the ball into the net with only 17.1 seconds remaining. The Guppies would kill off the remaining time for their fourth victory in 2004. The Guppies face off again this Wednesday night vs the Whalers. Game time is 10:00pm and there are plenty of seats still available.
