Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT June 9, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2004 season.
6/9/04 The Guppies looked to wrap up the Spring 2004 Regular season last night with an easy victory over the Panthers but they found themselves swimming against the waters of a flushing toilet. The Panthers and Guppies had a tough game earlier in the season in which the Gupps needed Overtime to beat them. Wednesday night they hoped to avoid another Overtime bout with the Cats. Things started out well as Tim Poulin (6-1-7) scored the first two goals of the game. However, midway through the First Half the Panthers took control of the game. Well, Maybe they didn't take over the game but their goalie was actually stopping shots!! Joe Linskey let up Five Goals on eleven Shots in the First Half!! "I think a kid from the stands shot a Beach Ball past Linskey at one point" stated Poulin. In a post game interview Linskey defended his play. "I sucked but hey, we had Kelly playing defense, That makes my night that much harder" At the Half the Guppies looked as if they were going belly up, down 5-2.
In the Second the Guppies decided to change their lines in an attempt to get their offense going. "We weren't scoring and we were down by three, changes were needed" stated Guppies Captain Brian Kelly. "Linskey is lucky that LeGolie had a hole because he would have been in net tonight" . The Changes paid off as Poulin scored his third of the night unassisted. A few minutes later Brian Mulcahy (1-1-2) took a pass from Kelly (0-2-2) and beat the Panthers netminder to the glove side. Poulin would tie the game at Five when he buried a pass from Jason Zito (0-2-2). The Panthers clawed back into the lead M. Wilhelm beat Linskey on a wrap around. With under five minutes to go Poulin was still not done!! He would tie the score at six burying a rebound off of a Rob Murphy (0-3-3) shot. With under two minutes (1:44) remaining the Panthers again took the one goal lead. However only seconds later (1:32) Poulin scored his sixth of the night, from Dan Pequita (1-1-2) and Murphy. The Guppies would complete the comeback when Pequita fired a high shot off the cross bar and into the Panthers net with only :16 seconds remaining.
The Guppies start the playoffs Wednesday night vs the Fourth seeded Blu Baz. Game time is at 8:00pm! Tickets are available starting at noon today at the following locations: Killingworth Library, Killingworth Circle Store, The New Dunkin Doughnuts on Route 81, The Copper Skillet, and the Z-rink box office.
