Official Game Summary

Shorthanded Guppies Come Up Short 7-5!

Glastonbury, CT April 8, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2010 season.

4/8/2010- It was "Gong Show" hockey at the Zrink Thursday night as the Guppies faced off against Monster. All heck broke loose as the Referees refused to call anything on Monster. It actually reminded me a lot of the Ref in "Youngblood" Hanna was his name I believe. "Hey Hanna maybe you should use these" exclaimed the Mustang's coach, showing him a pair of glass, "you're missing a good game!". On the bright side, Tim Poulin (3-1-4) scored first to give the Fish their first lead of the season.   Poulin was shooting  like his CCSU days (circa 1997) as he scored the Guppies Second Goal as well.

Jason Zito (1-1-2)  had a pretty tip goal as well, as the Guppies, who were very shorthanded, managed to tie the game at Three! Not bad considering the Fish had to kill of FIVE Penalties while going on the Power Play only......Wait, there were no Power Plays for Killingworth. Too Bad, because we worked on the PP all week in practice.

Midway thru the Second, Brian Mulcahy (0-3-3) fired a shot that Poulin would tip in to make it a 6-4 game. Moments later Brian Kelly took a pass from Mulcahy and fire a slap shot into the Monster net.  With the score 6-5 late in the Third, The Guppies pulled goaltender Joe Linskey for the extra attacker. Guppie players swarmed in the Monster zone before they cleared the puck with seconds remaining. The Fish had a chance for one last rush when Marc Crayton (0-1-1) grab the puck and looked to make a pass to Kelly. However, Marc fanned on the pass and it hit a Monster stick, then hit the back of the Guppies net....7-5!

After taking several cheap shots from Monster with no justice from the reffing staff the Guppies were on edge. They went over the edge after a remark was made about a team member. Mulcahy took matters into his own hands. In the world of men's league hockey everyone loves to "chirp", few ever want to walk the walk! Mulcahy made them walk the walk, as a result two Monster players turtled down and the game was called with .19 remaining.

Next game is Thursday night at 8pm vs Zrink newcomer Redrum ! Tickets are available.
