Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT April 1, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2010 season.
4/1/2010- The
Killingworth Guppies hit the Dek Thursday night not only looking for their first
win of the Season but also looking for their first GOAL of the Season. After
being shutout last week against House Brothers the Gupps hoped to strike early
and often. However, it was Jimmy Stickhandle that scored earlier and often,
as they converted on their first shot on goal. One 30-pack for Mr. Joe Linskey
Please...Thanks Joe!! Look at this this way Joe, after the past few season's
you must have a VIP Card or something like that to CT Beverage Mart. Jimmy Stickhandle
went on to score Four goals in the First Half while the Guppies score ZERO!
That's Three Half's of hockey and the Guppies were still looking for their first
goal of the season.
On to the Second Half where things seemed to get worse for the Fish, JS scored
again to open up a 5-0 lead! Forget about winning the game, the Guppie's faithful
were just hoping their team could make the game respectable. Finally, a goal
came when Keith Millen (1-2-3) won an offensive zone Face off to Brian
Kelly (2-2-4) who then found Rob Murphy (1-1-2) at the point. Murph fired
a low shot that beat the JS netminder for the Guppies first goal of the Season.
People in Killingworth ran out of their homes and began to celebrate!! "The
Goal", as it is now known in Killingworth, woke up the long slumbering Guppies offense.
Marc Crayton (1-0-1) score the Guppies Second straight goal only moments later.
Crayton's goal was an example of Guppies determination, after having several
of his shots stopped by the sprawling JS goaltender, Crayton finally put
the puck in the net. JS scored just over a minute later to gain the 6-2 lead.
However, Kelly went on to score two goals .15 seconds apart. The first one was
a backhander followed by a snipe, top cheese to the short side. The Guppies
had life!!! However, as they did all night, JS quickly stomped out any
hopes of a Guppies comeback. Dan Pequita (1-1-2) scored with just under
5 minutes remaining, in an effort to keep the Guppies close. Followed by
a nice Breakaway goal by Millen but, JS never stopped coming
and the Guppies short defensive Corps couldn't provide Linskey the
support he needed.
After the game Guppie's players reactions were mixed. "We scored
tonight that's better than last week, Right?" stated Guppies forward Dave
Armenia.
"We were trying a whole new thing in our first game, to see if
we could win a game without actually taking a stride," Guppies Assistant Captain Marc
Crayton said. "It was a short experiment - it wasn't going particularly
well. We tried first gear in during the First Half tonight, but all
joking aside, we were pretty good in the Second Half."
The
Guppies face off against Monster next week at 7pm. The Fish will be looking
to get their first win of the season after scoring their first goal this week.
Tickets are still available.
