- THE GARY COLMAN PROJECT
OUT LAST THE GUPPIES 9-7 -
Glastonbury, CT June 11th, 2003. ZRink
- Killingworth Guppies
spring 2003 season.
6/11/02- "What you talking about Willis???" That was the response
of Guppies Captain Brian Kelly when he learned that three of the Guppies
top players couldn't dress Wednesday night. With the Guppies down in numbers
they faced off against the B-league powerhouse GCP for the second time
this season. The Guppies would strike first as Rob Murphy (2-3-5) took
a pass from Dave Armenia (0-2-2) and walked in on a break away. The GCP
would rattle off the next 4 goals and the Guppies found themselves in
very deep water. The Guppies began to swim back to the shallow end as
Murphy would score his second of the game. Brian Kelly(3-2-5) would score
a few mintes later to make it a 4-3 game. However, the GCP scored their
5th of the night with just :32 seconds left in the first Half "It
was fustrating we would get it within one goal and they would score again
to make it a two goal game" stated Murphy in the post game interview.
The GCP would strike again early in the Second Half to widen their lead
but a minute later Kelly would score his second of the night off a great
pass from Armenia in the slot. "Dave(Armenia) had himself a game
tonight" stated Kelly. Again the GCP would score to regain the 3
goal lead (7-4) but Brian Mulcahy(1-1-2) would score to reduce the lead
again. With the GCP leading by 3 late in the game the Guppies made a push,
With just over a minute left they pulled goaltender Marc Crayton for the
extra attacker. Kelly would score his third of the night with 54 seconds
left. Tom Mierkiewizc (1-0-1) would score a few seconds later to make
it a one goal game. However it was not to be as the GCP was awarded a
penalty shot with 11 seconds left after Mulcahy threw his stick to block
a shot. Marc Crayton was solid in net for the Guppies and saw a lot of
action in his 2003 debut. The Guppies round out the regular season next
Wednesday, June 18th, at 1100pm (thats right 11pm) vs the Blue Devils.
