- GUPPIES CONTINUE TO DOMINATE BEATING THE SABRE CATS 9 - Glastonbury, CT June 5th, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies spring 2003 season. 6/4/03- The Killingworth Guppies continued to dominate their
opponents on Wednesday Night as they faced off against the Sabre Cats.
Joseph Linskey again lead the way by putting on a Goaltending clinic stopping
21 of the 22 Sabre Cats shots. Meanwhile, Marc Crayton (4-0-4) and Jason
Zito (3-1-4) were carrying the offensive load. The Gupps would strike
first as Brian Kelly (1-3-4) scored on a end to end rush. Zito would score
less than a minute later when he buried a Tom Mierkiewicz (0-2-2) pass.
The Guppies continued to roll as Dave Armenia (0-1-1) created a Cats turn
over and sent Kelly and Crayton in on a 2 on 1, Kelly slid a pass over
to Crayton who buried it into the empty net. The Guppies were controlling
the play but when the Sabre Cats had their chances Linskey was there to
answer. "Joe played out of his mind tonight" stated injured
Guppies forward Tim Poulin. "It's a lot different viewing the game
from up here(Poulin was in the Team's Skybox) you can really see a teams
weakness" Zito would strike twice late in the first half and Crayton
would score his second of the night to round out the half. Linskey had
just finished his 5th straight Half of scoreless hockey when disaster
struck. With the Guppies on the power play the Sabre Cats forward, Matt
Tapley, scored off a miscommunication in the Gupps defensive zone. "I'm
really upset that Linskey's Shut out streak ended on that play, that just
can't happen" stated the Guppies Captain Brian Kelly. The Guppies
would answer just seconds later as Crayton buried his third and fourth
goals of the game "Crayton is just on fire" stated Brian Mulcahy
(0-1-1). John Carroll would round out the Guppies scoring by getting his
first of the season off of a Zito pass " I don't worry about goals
but it's good to get off the shnide" said Carroll in the post game
interview. The Guppies have a busy week as they face off this Sunday,
Jun 8th, at 2pm vs the Biohazard. Then on Wednesday night they face off
against the GCP at 900pm. Seats are still available for both games.
