GUPPIES BURN
THE BLUE DEVILS, WINNING 6-1
12/13/02- Friday nights game was a battle of two teams heading into
two very different directions. The Guppies were looking to retain their
sole possession of first place while the Blue Devils were looking to
make some noise with an upset win over our beloved Guppies. Any dreams
of an upset were quickly dashed as Dave Armenia(1-0-1) roofed a great
pass from Rob Murphy(2-4-6)to give the Guppies a 1-0 lead. "It
was great to see Dave bury that shot" stated Guppies forward Marc
Crayton "He's been hard on himself lately and hopefully this will
get him going". A few minutes later Murphy fire a shot past a frozen
Blue Devils net minder. Brian Mulcahy(3-0-3) would score the next two
Guppies goals and added a third later giving him his third straight
3 or more goal game. "Fong is developing into a strong offensive
threat and he has worked hard to bring his game to this level"
stated Guppies Captain Brian Kelly. Murphy would score his second of
the night off a great pass from Jason Zito(0-2-2). Joe Linskey was again
solid between the pipes stopping 25 out of 26 shots. Linskey flirting
with a shut out but with just over six minutes left in the game the
Blue Devils solved the Linskey question. The Defense again was strong
but a bit short handed so, Kelly and Murphy slid back from their offensive
positions to lend a hand. This reporter wouldn't feel right without
mentioning how well Tom Mierkiewizc played on Friday night but many
believe it was because of his new pants. The Guppies Face off against
a very strong Quicksilver team next Friday. The Quicksilver are currently
6-1-0 on the season, losing their opener to the Guppies 6-4! This is
a battle between the two powerhouses of the B-division and it has first
place implications. This is a must see game!!!! Game time is 700pm on
Friday Dec. 20th at the Z-Rink. Limited tickets are still available
on ebay.
