BIG FISH IN A LITTLE POND: THE GUPPIES CONTINUE STREAK TO 5


8/30/02 The 2002 Killingworth Guppies have done it again beating a strong Mapleleafs team 6-4. The Guppies have won a record setting 5 games in a row, beating the old mark of 4 set by the 1996 Guppies. The scoring started quickly as Rob Murphy (3-0-3) made it 1-0. The Mapleleafs would come back and tie the game before the guppies jumped out in to a 3-1 lead. However, Dan Pequita of the Maple Leafs scored two goals, one shorthanded, to even the score at 3. With the scored tied at four and a little over five minutes remaining the Guppies took the lead for good off a goal by Jay Zito (2-1-3). The Guppies Defense again was solid with strong plays coming from John Carroll (0-1-1), Tim Gessner, and Tom Mierkiewicz. Despite winning the game the guppies were out shot 28 to 40 making it a busy night in the net for Joe Linskey. The Guppies faceoff next against the Sidewinders Thursday night at 930pm. This will be the only regular season match-up between these two teams.


Side Notes:


- Mike Halle was a scratch in Thursdays game, he should be back for next week's game against the Sidewinders.
- Despite the close game against the Mapleleafs the Guppies never trailed in the game.
- Thru the first five games the Guppies have out scored their oppnents 37 to 20.
