Official Press Release

- GUPPIES DE-CLAW THE SABRE CATS IN 8-5 WIN -

Glastonbury, CT May 7th, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies victory number THREE of spring 2003 season.

5/7/03- The Sabre Cats came in their game against the Guppies sporting their new jerseys but they forgot the most important thing, their goalie!!! The game started with the Cats having five skaters until their goalie was able to arrive three minutes into the game. The Gupps were able to capitalize only twice on the advantage from goals by Brian Kelly(3-0-3) and David Armenia(1-0-1). The Score was 2-1 Guppies when the Sabre Cats added the netminder into the mix. The addition of the Goaltender didn't slow down the Gupps as Robert Murphy(2-2-4) buried a great pass from Tim Poulin(1-2-3). Murphy would return the favor later in the period setting up Poulin for the Guppies fourth goal of the night. "We share a Brain" stated both Tim Poulin and Rob Murphy. The Gupps enjoyed the 4-2 lead at the half but the Cats came back to make it a one goal game early in the second. The Murphy and Poulin show would hook up one more time as Poulin set up Murph second goal of the night."Murph just launched a laser" stated Guppies defenseman John Carroll. The Sabre Cats would strike back making it a one goal game again when Kelly fired a shot from the right side boards into the top left hand corner of the net. "I really didn't have an angle I just looked down and shot the puck" Kelly would score again from the point off a great pass from Brian Mulcahy(0-2-2). Marc Crayton(1-0-1) would round out the scoring off a Mulcahy pass. The Guppies defensive corps (Carroll, Kelly, Mierk, and Murphy) was solid for the first time this season with John Carroll leading the way. While Joseph Linskey raised his game to a respectable level stopping 21 of the Cats 26 shots. The Guppies face-off next week at 7pm vs the Gary Coleman Project, thats right the Gary Coleman Project! Gary Coleman, of Different Strokes fame, will be in attendance. Plenty of seats are still available.

Side Notes:
- Jason Zito was a healthy scratch Wednesday night
- The decision to start goaltender Joseph Linskey wednesday night was a game time decision, Joseph is battle a sore toe nail.
- Thomas Mierkeiwicz went back to his old skates last night and many believe that was the difference in the Guppy's play.
