GUPPIES WIN
THEIR B LEAGUE DEBUT 6-4 OVER THE QUICKSILVER
10/25/02-The Killingworth Guppies faced off for their new season Friday
night, swimming in a bigger pond and against a very good QuickSilver
team. The beginning of the game didn't flow the Guppies way as The Quicksilver
started the scoring 12 seconds into the game. Two minutes into the game
the Guppies found themselves looking at a 2-0 deficit. As if thing couldn't
get any worse The Quicksilver scored again on there sixth shot of the
game "I didn't even see the shot" explained a bewildered Joe
Linskey. With this Guppie Slaughter well under way there was one guppy
that said NO!!! Brian "Fong" Mulcahy(1-0-1) scored midway
through the first to stop the bleeding. America's favorite fishes weren't
dead yet....Jason Zito (3-0-3) scored a few minutes later and Brian
Kelly (2-1-3) eventually tied the game on a break away. With the score
tied at the 3 The Zito/Linskey show was about to begin. Zito scored
again late in the first to give the Guppies the one goal lead at the
break. He scored again in the second period on a great individual effort
off a offensive end draw. Meanwhile, Joe Linskey was in the mist of
his best performance ever in a Guppie's jersey as he turned away 36
out of the 40 Quicksilver shots. Time and time again Linskey saved the
Guppies as the Quicksilver swarmed in their kitchen. As many of you
know this reporter is not a Linskey fan but even I know that the Guppies
won only because of Linskey's performance. Kelly later scored an Empty
net goal late to secure the guppies first win of the new season. The
Guppies face off next against Team Garcia, the defending B-League Champion.
Game time is 7pm at the Z-Rink as always tickets are still available.
