- Guppies Neutralize Biohazard 9-4 to Win Semi-Final B Division Playoff Game -

Glastonbury, CT June 25th, 2003. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies spring 2003 season.

Wednesday nights game was a real battle as our fearless Guppies faced off against the Biohazard for a 10PM game at the Zrink.. Winner of this game would advance to face the GCP for the B division championship, and the coveted $110 tee shirt, the looser is sent packing (no soup for you). From the onset of this game you could feel the tension in the air there is a lot of bad blood between these two teams. Outside of GCP, Biohazard was the only other team to best the Guppies in 3 seasons and that is not taken lightly in K-town.

Tim Poulin started things off for the Gupps putting us on the big board first and second assisted by Kelly, giving the Gupps an early 2 - nil lead about 5 minutes into play. Biohazzard battled back to close the gap 2-1. Zito and Murph teamed up on the next goal and Biohazzard answered again to make it 2-3.

Game was getting more chippy as Bio worked on closing the gap and the Gupps worked on making it bigger going into the half. Poulin again turned up the heat with an assist from Zito to score and followed up again for a unassisted goal to make it his fourth of the night. Crayton and Fong would connect to make it 6-2 Gupp lead going into the half.

Second half turned into the battle royal, a lot of slashing, elbows and chopping going on. Several scuffles broke out with a Bio player ejected with police escort. Bio would start the scoring in 2nd half with 2 goals closing the gap to 2. Kelly and Fong would connect to make it 3, then Kelly again from Poulin to make it 8-4. Icing on the cake, best goal of the night Rob Murphy battles down ice from a Poulin/Kelly assist to make the final score 9-4, Guppy win, crowd goes wild. Guppies advance to face GCP in final showdown at Zrink Wednesday July 2nd at 9pm.

Tickets are still available at the box office at Zrink, the K-town country store and Cloverleaf circle store.

- Leahy was a healthy scratch for the game tonight.
