Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT July 20, 2011. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2011 season.
07/20/2011- The Guppies faced off against the undefeated Saints Wednesday night in a battle of two top teams in the league. The Saints came out flying and put the Fish on their back fins quickly. Joe Linskey made several key saves in the first two minutes to keep the Saints at bay. However, on one of these saves, the Ref in the scorer's box, determined that the puck had crossed the line. Linskey, and the Guppies, were fired up and pleaded to the other Ref but, the Goal stood and the Guppies were down by one. The Saints, with all the momentum from the questionable goal, continued to Stomp the Fish into submission, scoring their second goal less than a minute later. The Guppie's finally found their game midway through the Half but, they still couldn't find the net. Despite their better play the Guppies couldn't stop the Saint's offense....and found themselves down 3-0! At this point the Guppies looked like they were left on the dock twitching, fluttering, and dying in the hot sun! Finally, the Guppies found some life, like rain drops from above! Tim Poulin (3-0-3) got the Guppies on the board when he skated through the slot and fired a low shot into the Saint's net. Minutes later it was Poulin again, beating the Saints defense and finding the back of the net. Despite the awful play, the Guppies were only down by one at the Half 3-2!
In the Second Half the Saints would score again to regain their two goal lead. That's until Dan Pequita (0-1-1) found Mike Lagana (1-0-1) to make it 4-3. The Guppies appeared to have tied the game a few minutes later when Dan Pequita scored, however, the same Ref the awarded the Saint's goal from the scorers box now waved off the Guppies goal. I'm starting to think this guy isn't a Guppie's fan. Speaking of Guppie fans....they were outraged with the call and hurled down profanities and garbage on the boys in stripes. The Guppies remained focused as Brian Kelly (0-1-1) found Poulin, in the high slot, who buried the puck into the net....4-4!! The crowd went crazy, meanwhile, Kelly skated over to the Ref and asked "Did that one go in?". However, that would be the last Guppie's highlight of the night! The Saints ended the celebration seconds later as they beat Linskey for the 5-4 lead. Then the penalties came! First it was Armenia for "holding" and then Lagana "cross checking" which killed any attempt for a Guppies comeback and sealed the Win for the Saints.
The Guppies Face-off against ESPN Wednesday night and look to get a much need victory. Game time is 7pm and Tickets are available.
