Guppies Dig Out of Avalanche 8-6

 

Glastonbury, CT July 13, 2011. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2011 season.

 

07/13/2011- Wednesday Night was another chapter in the newly formed rivalry between the Avalanche and the Guppies. The Lanche came out and took control of the game. Joe Linskey, who had struggled in recent weeks, kept the Guppies in the game with several key saves. However, the Avalanche would finally solve Linskey and put Two goals up on the board before the Fish knew what happened. Killingworth finally found their game midway through the half but, this time it was the Lanche's netminder (John Mesko) rising to the occasion. Eventually, Tim Poulin (0-4-4) found Mike Lagana (2-0-2) with a great pass which Mikey tip in for the Fish's first goal. The Avalanche scored again to regain their two goal lead before Marc Crayton (1-1-2) fired a "Change Up" shot that beat Mesko Five hole. With just over a minute remaining in the half, Brian Kelly (1-1-2) took a pass from Jon Stevenson (1-1-2) and fired it "Top Cheese" to tie the game at Three.

The Guppies looked to take their first lead of the game at the start of the Second Half, however, the Avalanche had other ideas in mind, scoring less than a minute in. As they did all night the Guppies fought back to tie the game with Lagana scoring his second of the night. The Avs would score again, only to be answered by Jon Stevenson's tally a few minutes later. I apologize if this sounds like a broken record, but, the Lanche would score yet again! The Guppies were still in search for their first lead with Six minutes remaining. That's when "Millen Time" finally got started! Keith Millen scored twice in a span of .26 seconds to tie the game, then give the Fish their first lead of the night. The Avalanche turned up their attack but the Guppies never back down. The Game's outcome was made clearer when Dan Pequita beat Mesko with just over a minute remaining to give the Fish a two goal lead.

The Guppies face-off against the Saints this Wednesday at 8pm! The Saints are always tough competition. Tickets are still available.

SIDE NOTES:
- The Guppies had a full roster Wednesday night.

- Do the Guppies have a drinking problem? There was talked about maybe 30 beers not being enough for nights when the Fish have a 7pm game. The thought is having 48 beers on these night. 24 beers for the first Goal or penalty or goal against on one of the first three shots (The Linskey Rule) and 24 for the last assist. There still needs to be a team vote
