Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT July 6, 2011. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2011 season.
07/06/2011- The Guppies came out Wednesday night and from the drop of the puck they dominated ZRink. On their first shift the line of Poulin,Blair, Stevenson, and Kelly control the puck and peppered the Zrink netminder with shot after shot. However, late in the shift Jon Stevenson (0-2-2) was beat on a one-on-one. Then Joe Linskey (0-1-1) was deked out of his jock as Zrink took the 1-0 lead. It was the second week in a row in which Linskey was beat on the very first shot he faced. Can you say.....THIRTY PACK!? As bad as this was it didn't get much better for Joe, who let up 3 goals on 15 shots! This has put the Guppie's Front office into motion, as they try to replace the aging Linskey. They even went as far to place an ad on Craigslist which prompted a response from several strong candidates. However, our favorite is from Stephanie (photo below) who is a die hard Guppies fan from Oshawa, Ont.

The Guppies finally broke through the brick wall that was the ZRink netminder when Mike Lagana (2-0-2) scored his first of the night. The game remained tied at one thanks to the superb netminding in the Zrink net and the lack of shots on the Guppie's net. Brian Kelly (2-1-3)would scored with just over 3 minutes remaining in the half to give Fish their first lead of the night. Dan Pequita (1-0-1) scored seconds later to make it 3-1. Finally, Kelly would score his second of the night with just over a minute remaining. The 3goal burst, in a span of 2minutes and 16 seconds, gave the Guppies a commanding 4-1 lead at the Half.
Zrink would open up the scoring in the Second Half on a weak shot that would elude Linskey. With the score now 4-2, Tim Poulin tried to rally the Guppies "Come on guys, lets pick it up! They're only TWO shoots away from tying this game!". The Guppies responded as Lagana, Poulin, and Marc Crayton (1-1-2) all scored to give the Guppies a very comfortable 7-2 lead midway through the half. However, in the past few weeks we have learned that No Guppie's lead is safe with Joe Linskey is in the net. So, the Guppies kept up the pressure as Poulin scored his second of the night with 5minutes remaining, then added a Third goal with .34 second left in the game. "Even then I wasn't sure we were safe from a Linskey collapse" state Guppie's forward Dave Armenia. However, by limiting opportunities against Linskey the Guppies secured the 9-3 victory!
Killingworth faces off against The Avalanche this Wednesday at 7pm. Limited tix are available.
