Official Press Release

Guppies OutShoot Sinners 5-4 (OT)

Glastonbury, CT August 18, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.

08/18/2010- The Guppies looked to keep on their winning ways after an impressive win over the Hurley's last week. However, the Sinners, currently in 3rd Place, had other ideas in mind. The Guppies and Sinners played a Classic game Wednesday night that took longer than Overtime to decide. The Sinners got on the board first scoring the first two goals of the game. Nothing new for the Guppies, however, I wish the other teams could start scoring on Linskey on one of the first three shots. The Beer always tastes better when Linskey is buying! Anyway's, The Guppies (down by two) finally found some life as Rob Murphy (1-1-2) found Brian Kelly (2-1-3) for the Fish's first goal of the game. The Gupps would tie the game less than two minutes later when Kelly returned the favor and assisted on Murph's goal. This goal was by far the goal of the night, as Rob knocked his own rebound out of the air and into the net. It was Nice! The Guppies kept rolling as Kelly scored his second of the night. It was their first lead and they held onto it all the way to the Half.

In the Second Half, The Sinners fought back and struck early, scoring just over a minute in. The two teams traded scoring opportunities and the Goaltending, on both ends, rose to the occasion. Linskey continues his strong play this season, turning in efforts and making saves that have many shaking their heads. There are even some mystified fans that created a "That's Not Linskey in Net" Facebook page. Believe it or Not (all apologies to the fine folks over at Ripley's) that is Joe Linskey in net! Jon Stevenson (1-0-1)scored midway through the Half to give the Guppies the 4-3 lead. Stevenson skated the puck out of the Guppies zone, thru the neutral zone and fired a Slap Shot into the Sinner's net. It was a hard shot!! The Guppies lead however, was short lived as the Sinners would again tie the game this time at 4. Again goaltending was solid all night and the two teams skated to a tie at the End of Regulation.

In OT  the Fish and Sinners couldn't settle the contest. This contest would need to be decided in a Shootout....Old West Style! The Guppies decided to shoot first with Kelly scoring, The Sinners would score on their first attempt...All tied up! Murphy shot next and with the same move scored, Then Linskey shut down the next Sinner shooter. Finally, Keith Millen (0-1-1)would score on his attempt to give the Fish the 3-1 shootout lead. If Linskey could stop the next shooter the Guppies would win....Long Story Short .....Guppies win the shoot out 3-1 and the game 5-4!

The Guppies faceoff against the Squirrel Kickers next Wednesday at 8pm. Limited Tickets are available!
