Linskey Handcuffs Jailbait in Guppies 4-1 Win!

Glastonbury, CT August 4, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.

08/04/2010- The Guppies faced off Wednesday night against the very tempting and always dangerous Jailbait. The Fish looked to continue their undefeated season but, were faced with the challenge of being very shorthanded. The Guppies only had Five skaters (and Linskey) for the game. GM Brian Kelly quickly swung into action and signed Frank Rego to a contract. Rego is mostly known in Killingworth as the referee that sends our beloved heroes off to the Sin bin. However, on this night Frank took off that Zebra stripes and actually help the Guppies to victory. The Gupps started the scoring early as Keith Millen (2-0-2) buried a pass from Rego.  The goal was not only big for the Fish but for Millen too. A week after being kept off the scoring sheet "Millen Time" resumed his chase for the Guppies record for the most goals in a season. The current record is 31 and Millen was sitting at 14 after the game. Jailbait scored to tie the score at one midway through the half. The score remained tied at one for the remainder of the first thanks to some superb play by Guppies netminder Joe Linskey! I know what you're thinking and yes you just read that! Take a moment and reread that line to make sure you read it correctly, I'll wait.

See I told you, you read it right! As unbelievable as it seems Linskey was great Wednesday night. He made some incredible saves squashing several great Jailbait scoring chances.

Millen would strike again early in the Second Half as he wound up at the JB blue line and fired a low slap shot past their netminder. Only moments later Rego scored his first goal in Guppie's blue as Jay Zito (1-1-2) made a great centering pass. The Goal gave the fish the two goal lead and some much need breathing room. Goals were hard to come by all night as Linskey was playing out of his mind and the JB netminder also put in a strong effort. The Goal of the night had to be Zito's redirection goal. Rego was at the point with the puck and faked a pass. He then fired a wide shot to a streaking Zito who tipped it into the Jailbait net. It was pretty folks!

The Guppies have a big challenge next week as the faceoff against Hurleys, the team that they're currently tied with in First place. Game time is 9pm and Tickets have been sold out! Time to shop Stub Hub kids.

SIDE NOTES:

-Rob Murphy, Jon Stevenson, Brian Mulcahy, and Big Blue (our water jug) were healthy scratches. Dave Armenia is on the IR
-Fans in Killingworth were excited to see Frank Rego in a Guppies jersey Wednesday night. Rego scored a goal and had 2 assists. As one fan put it "I'm use to Frank calling questionable penalties against the Guppies, helping other teams score against the fish! It was nice to see him help the fish on this night."  Not everyone was happy to see Frank play Joe Linskey complained "I didn't have anyone to talk to out there with Frank not reffing!"
