Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT June 30, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.
06/30/10- Shorthanded in man power the Guppies took the Dek against ESPN Wednesday night. To be fair, ESPN was shorthanded as well, Everyone must have been in Bristol over hyping the Lebron James coverage. Things didn't start out well for the Guppies as Joe Linskey (0-1-1) would again, let up a goal on the first shot he faced! This wasn't a breakaway, this was a bad angle shot from the corner that eluded the Guppies netminder. I'm not sure but, if I was trying to save some money for a new crib, I'd start saving the first three shot of the game. At least stop the first two....make it interesting! The Guppies would get on the board midway through the First Half, when the "D-League Super Star", aka Keith Millen(1-1-2), scored his FIFTH goal of the season. However, ESPN was quick to respond beating Linskey again for the 2-1 lead. Late in the Half, Brian Kelly (1-3-4) fired the puck on ESPN's net, which was blocked! Then Marc Crayton (0-1-1)took a swipe at the rebound which was blocked! Finally Brian "Rello" Mulcahy (1-0-1) took care of business and buried the puck into the net.... Thanks Rello! At the Half the Guppies were tied at Two.
The Second Half brought something that Guppie Fans haven't seen since 1998....No, not Joel Burzinski's Kiwi bike helmet! It was a Guppies goal scored by non other than Killingworth's own Brian Blair (1-0-1). Blair crashed the ESPN net after Kelly picked up a rebound of Linskey's pads and fired a shot from his own blue line. Blair forced the puck over the goal line and into the net. After a meeting between the referees and a quick call to Toronto for a video replay, the Guppies celebrated their first lead of the night. ESPN fought back to tie it at three midway through the half. However, with just under 5 minutes remaining Millen made a great pass to Kelly in front of the net. Kelly fanned on a shot that went "Five Hole" on the ESPN netminder. ESPN had a lot of pressure late in the game but Linskey stood on his head and made some great saves to secure the Guppie's victory.
The Guppies faceoff next week against Beaver Slam. Game time is 7pm and there plenty of tickets still available.
