Glastonbury, CT September 8, 2010. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2010 season.

09/08/2010- Wednesday night the Guppies looked to do something they haven't done in Two years. Earn the honor to skate in a ZRink Championship game. From 2002 thru 2008 Guppie Teams and Championship games went hand and hand as the Guppies participated in the Big Game 13 times in 15 seasons! Standing in their way in the Semi Finals were the always tough Squirrel Kickers. The Guppies got started early as Brian Kelly (2-0-2) intercepted a Kicker's pass and skated in on a breakaway. Kelly would score over the sprawling netminder for the 1-0 Guppies lead. The Squirrel Kickers would score on their THIRD shot of game to tie the game at One. Only a few minutes later the Kicker's would score again to take the 2-1 Lead. The Guppies started to struggle and it seemed that the weight of the game would crush our heros. Then a Jason Zito (1-0-1) shot eluded the Kickers netminder and bounced into the net. At the Half the Game was tied at Two!

The Second Half provided some more exciting Hockey as the two teams traded scoring opportunities. A penalty early in the half would put the Guppies on the Penalty Kill. However, Brian Kelly would score a Short handed goal, Off the faceoff Kelly pushed the puck forward, then split the Defense in
a solid individual effort, to give the Gupps the 3-2 lead. Minutes later Rob Murphy(0-2-2)carried the puck into the Kickers zone on a two on one with Keith Millen (1-0-1). Murph slid a great pass over to Millen who fired a shot into the Kicker's net. The Guppies kept swimming and it paid
off quickly, as Mike Lagana (1-0-1) scored his first goal in Guppies Blue. Lagana picked-off a Kicker's pass, then skated over the Blue Line, and fired a Laser into their net. The Three Goal cushion was more than enough as the Guppies cruised to a 5-3 Victory over the Squirrel Kickers.

The Guppies will be in the Finals for the first time since the Summer of 2008! The Fans in Killingworth are excited to watch Championship Hockey once again. The CT State Police have already stated they will be increasing their presence next Wednesday night. The Blue Mile will be open for
partiers...The Killingworh Cafe, June Outback, and the Copper Skillet will be showing the game live. Tickets for the game are sold out! Game time is 8pm and their opponent is TBD!  



SIDE NOTES:
- Frank Rego was a Healthy Scratch

- Dave Armenia is on the IR....Mulcahy is still MIA
- Did he over didn't he? Did Linskey get scored upon on the Squirrels 3rd shot on net? Many said yes a few said no! The Captains decided that Linskey and Millen (the First Guppie to take a penalty) should split the effort and each buy an 18 pack. However, Kelly soon remember that Rego promised he's buy the beer if the Guppies made the Finals.....Needless to say Frank is on the Beer.

- Stevenson actually showed up and played Wednesday night....only Days after the his wedding. However, Jon will be out this week on the honeymoon
