Pettola Backstops Guppies to Victory 8-4!

Glastonbury, CT July 31, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2007 season.

07/31/2007- The Guppies continued their winning ways Tuesday night as they knocked off an always tough Fire Ants hockey team. The Ants were shorthanded but they had a very talented team ready to face off against the Guppies. The fish would strike first as Keith Millen (2-2-4) buried a pass from Rob Murphy (1-3-4).  That would be the only bright spot for the Guppies offense and defense in the first half.  After that the "Andy Pettola Show" got started, the Guppies backup net minder took center stage.  The Ants bombard the Gupps net with shots, but Andy stood on his head, in some cases not only stopping the first shot but also the second and a third. "We kinda hung Andy out to dry tonight, but it's good to see he able to handle it" stated Guppies defenseman Dan Pequita.  In a post game interview Pettola comment "I thought they were just giving me a tryout. Almost seeing how much I could handle".  At the end of the first, the game was  tied 1-1.

The Guppies regrouped during half time and came out swimming in the Second. Scoring just .13 seconds into the half, as Murphy hit Tim Poulin (2-0-2) with a "Hail Mary" pass sending Tim in all alone.  .47 seconds later Millen found Murphy,  who scored his 7th goal of the season. The Guppies defense was still nowhere to be found but at least they got the offense going.  Brian Kelly (2-1-3) scored off a great 2-on-1 pass from Brian Mulcahy (0-2-2).  Ten seconds later, Poulin would score his second of the night and eventual game winner to give the Guppies a comfortable lead.  I know what you're thinking "No lead is too comfortable for the Guppie's fans!" however, Pettola seemed to be on his game and continued to stonewall the Fire Ants.  Kelly, Millen, and Dan Pequita (1-2-3) rounded out the Guppies scoring as the fish went onto win 8-4!

Next week the Guppies face off against the Stingers, game time is 7pm! The Stingers are currently in 4th place and are the only team remaining in the league that the Gupps haven't played yet. Tickets are on sale now and the Family Value is available for all 7pm games (4 tixs, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas only $99).
