Guppies Swim Through Thunder Bay 13-3

Glastonbury, CT July 24, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2007 season.

07/24/2007- The Guppies came into Tuesday night's game after their impressive victory over the Z-Rink Selects on Friday. The good news for Guppies Nation? The Fish pick up where they left off and came out flying against Thunder Bay, taking the lead less than .30 seconds into the game. It was the beginning of a very long night for a Bay team that has struggled this season.  There were some early penalties handed out as the two teams tried to take control of the game. In the end, the Guppies got the upper fin, scoring the first three goals of the game before the Bay answered. The Guppies scored the next four goals after TB's first tally.  However, the exclamation point was the Guppies 7th goal. Marc Crayton (5-2-3) took a pass from Jason Zito (3-5-8) and fired a laser over the shoulder of the TB netminder. The shot sent the goalies water bottle flying into the air. Joe Linskey was confused "Crayton shot that? I've never seen him shoot a puck in the air? Are you sure it was Crayton?"  Linskey wasn't the only Guppies teammate that was shocked by "the goal"!  "Everyone on the bench couldn't believed what they had witnessed. It's like seeing a UFO, unless you see it for yourself, you can't believe it"  stated Keith Millen. The Guppies pick up their jaws and finished up the First half with a 8-2 lead.

The Guppies continued their dominance of the game in the Second Half as Crayton scored yet again. Up 9-2, the focus now was less on winning the game and more on the cold CL's waiting for the team in the parking lot.  To their credit Thunder Bay never quit, as Mike Lagana scored TB's final goal of the night.  The Guppies scored the next four goals, in a five minutes span, to finally Mercy the Bay with alittle more than seven minutes remaining.

The Guppies face off against the Fire Ants next week, in a late night West Coast Game, 10pm! As always, late night game tickets are half off. See you at the Z!

SIDE NOTES:

- Brian Mulcahy and Dan Pequita were healthy scratches Tuesday night.

- Rob Murphy had Eight assists Tuesday night setting a new team record. The old record was Five set be Brian Mulcahy on 12/6/2002 vs The Red Army. Murphy, as well as Jason Zito and Brian Kelly tied that mark in past years, but Murphy has raised the bar again.

- Murphy wasn't the only Guppie with a huge night. Marc Crayton scored a career record 5 goals and added 2 assists. Jason Zito had 3 goals and 5 assist, and Brian Kelly added 4 goals and 5 assists.  Zito, Crayton, Murphy, and Kelly all played on the same line Tuesday night. Maybe the Gupps should keep that line together.
