Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT June 26, 2007. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2007 season.
06/26/2007- The Guppies look ready for action Tuesday night as they hit the dek at the ZRink located in beautiful downtown Glastonbury. The Gupps opponent this night? The Huskies, which is a spin off of the UConn Roller Hockey team. The Guppies struck first as Rob Murphy (3-0-3) scored on a sinking fast ball from the point. However, the Huskies tied the score at one when they beat Guppies new back-up netminder Andy Pettola through the five hole. Only moments later, Murphy scored again to make it 2-1 Killingworth. It remain 2-1 for most of the First Half as the two teams traded scoring chances but couldn't find the back of the net. Then with just over two minutes remaining the flood gates open for the Guppies and pucks started hitting the twine. First up, Tim Poulin (3-1-4) scored his first of the night. Then with .36 seconds remaining Jason Zito (2-1-3) converted on a two on one with Brian Kelly (0-4-4). However, the goal of the Half, if not the game, was Dan Pequita's (1-2-3) goal with .19 remaining. Pequita took a long outlet pass from Mike Halle (0-3-3) and fired a weak one timer from the blue line into the Huskies net. "It was just awful" stated Poulin in a post game interview.
The Guppies took the 5-1 lead into the Second Half hoping not to have a repeat of the game a week prior (vs the Spartans). When the Fish saw a 5-1 lead disappear right in front of them. Keith Millen did his best to make sure that didn't happen scoring less than a minute into the half to make it 6-1 Guppies. The Huskies made an attempt to get back into the game as Jake Preissler scored his second goal of the game. Unfortunately, for Preissler and the Huskies, the Gupps just kept coming. Rob Murphy scored the Hat Trick to make it 7-2. The Guppies started to swarm the Huskie's net as they began to shot from everywhere, especially Pequita, who was looking to recapture the magic of his goal earlier by ripping onetimers as much as possible. Zito scored again just before the midway point of the half as the Guppies took control of the game. Marc Crayton (1-2-3) looked to have his first goal of the season only moments later, as he found himself in front of a wide open net with the puck. Crayton fired that puck off the side of the net......The bigger nets idea can't get to reality fast enough as far as Marc's concerned. Poulin scored back to back goals to earn the Hat Trick himself, before Crayton finally got his goal. Again, Marc had a an open net but this time he buried his shot......Nice shooting TEX!
The Guppies have next week off as they celebrate America's 231st Birthday! The Gupps wish everyone in Guppie Nation a happy and safe 4th of July! The Fish are back in action July 10th at 8pm vs the undefeated Ball Smashers. Should be a great game, tickets are limited.
