Cyclones Upset Guppies 9-6
Glastonbury, CT August 4, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2005 season
A sweltering August 4, 2005 - Thursday night the Guppies faced off against the Cyclones hoping to put another win on the board and cement playoff seed. The Guppies came into the game at 6-0-0, while the Cyclones posted a 3-2-0 record. This game should have been snap for the fish coming off the win from District 6, but the determined Cyclone team had other plans. First half started out with an accelerated tempo as Caswell puts a shot past Linskey to get on the board first for the Cyclones with just under a minute on the clock. Pequita would answer at few minutes later getting pass from Poulin to even the score. Murphy connected with Poulin at 13:14 to put the fish up 2-1, this is the only time the Gupps would lead the score all night, and it was short lived as Langille hits the back of the net for the Cycolnes to tie it at 2 all. Langille would find net again at 4:48 to put the Cyclones up at the half 3-2.
Second Half:
Gupps came out firing as Pequita finds Poulin in front to even the score at
3 just 11 seconds in to the half. Then the Cycones went on their first scoring
streak netting 3 un-answered goals in the span of just over 4 minutes putting
them up 6-3. Mark "Styles" Crayton made some line changes and adjustments
that seemed to do the trick, as Rob Murphy started the Guppies rally scoring
with assistance from Tim Poulin. 40 seconds later Pequita finds the net with
a team effort from Murphy & Mulcahy to put the Gupps within one. Pouline
would tie the game at 6'es, with over 5 minutes left on the clock. A determined
Tranter would lite up Linskey to put the Cyclones back up by one with 4:30
remaining. Tranter again snuck one past the fish from no angle, the puck seemed
to magically bounce off Joe's skate and into the net. Then Cory Coffin (appropriately
named) would nail the box shut for the Cyclones, with 3:13 left on the clock.
Ouch that's going to leave a mark!
The Guppies face off next on Thursday Aug 11'th at 7pm vs the Fire Ants. This
should be a real good one folks as the Guppies will be looking for the redeemer.
Limited tickets still available at the box office but going fast, I suggest
you call ahead.
SIDE NOTES:
- John Stevenson, Brian Kelly, Mike Halle, Jay Zito were all healthy scratches
- This loss seemed almost predictable as the guppies have not been able to top their record of more than 27 consecutive wins. Last weeks victory over District 6 ties the record at 27. Since losing to the Mad Dogs July 04, the Guppies have been on a tear, a victory over the Cyclones would have been win 28 breaking the old record.
- Mike Halle still has not lost a game wearing a fish uniform , wow that's impressive. Don't forget the suds next week Mike!!
- Cyclones played a real clean game, their were no penalties all night. One Guppy commented after the game "Cyclones were probably the cleanest and most polite hockey team we have played all season, one guy actually apologized for checking me".
