Guppies Snuff Dead Goalies 6-4

Glastonbury, CT Sept. 2, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2004 season.

Sept. 2, 2004 - The Guppies are on a role and are getting ready for the Playoffs. Thursday night they faced off against a strong Dead Goalies team. The Guppies would start the scoring when Craig Zito (2-0-2) scored as he crashed the Goalies net banging in a rebound. The Dead Goalies would tie the score only seconds later as a miscommunitaion from Joe Linskey and his defense lead to the goal. "I saw Kelly coming down the boards and I figured F-him I'm passing it to the other team" - stated Linskey in a Post Game interview at Bennigans. Jason Zito (3-1-4) would give the Gupps the lead again as he buried a pass from Robert Murphy (0-5-5).  Midway through the Half  J. Zito would score again as Brian Kelly (1-4-5) found him open in the high slot. The Goalies were fighting their way back into the game when Allan Corkum scored his first of the night. However, with just under two minutes left the J. Zito would score his third of the night and give the Gupps the two goal lead at the half.

In the second both teams had several strong scoring opportunities. Early on the Goalies controlled the play as the Guppies struggled to get the ball out of the zone. Linskey was solid robbing several Dead Goalies players of certain goals. "Joe played well tonight, who knew he had it in him?" stated the rookie Craig Zito.  The Guppies would at to the lead when J. Zito found Kelly in the slot. Kelly would be the Goalies netminder for the power play goal. Only a minute and a half later Miguel Feliciano would score for the Dead Goalies. C. Zito would answer that tally only minutes later scoring to give Gupps the three goal lead late in the game. Corkum would score one more time for the Goalies w/only .36 seconds remaining but at that point the game was out of reach. Rob Murphy looked to set a new team record in assist but his pass to Kelly in the final secounds was cut off by the Goalies defense. Maybe next time Murph!!

The Guppies look to end the Regular season next week against the Mad Dogs. This is an important game as it has a chance to decide would is the number one seed heading into the playoffs. Game time is late 11pm, Someone in the marketing and scheduling department is going to get fired! Tickets are sold out but I'm sure you can scalp some behind the old Killingworth Inn, as for Henry!

SIDE NOTES:

- Brian Mulcahy and Dan Pequita were Healthy Scratches Thursday Night.

- Closed for Business: The Poulin/Crayton Line was shut down by the Goalies Thursday night. No one can remember when that last happened but I'm sure it was awhile ago.

- The Guppies and Dead Goalies are looking to reschedule their game from July 22nd in which the Goalies had to forfeit the game because of a lack in players. A league rule stated they could have played with 3 skaters and a Goalie. The league hopes to reschedule the game next week if the teams are able to play.

- Sharp shooter: Joe Linskey is use to people shooting on him. However, Joe is an excellent marks man and recently won a CT state championship for target shooting. Either way Joe still sucks in the Guppies net.
