Zitos Bury Dead Goalies 10-3

Glastonbury, CT Aug 12, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2004 season.

Aug. 12, 2004 - Craig and Jay Zito lead the way for the Guppies scoring Six of the team's Ten Goals (4 and 2 respectively)on Thursday Night. The Dead Goalies were trying to dig their way into the game from the opening faceoff.  Jason would start the scoring only  three minutes into the game when he bury a pass from Craig. The Goalies would take their only lead of the game by scoring the next two goals. Tim Poulin would tie the game at 2 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the half.  Craig and Tim would score again to give the Guppies the 4-2 lead at the half.

In the Second The Guppies continued to add to their lead as Brian Kelly scored with a no angle shot on the Goalies goal line. (It was actually supose to be a pass to Poulin).  The Guppies continued the pressure as J. Zito scored his second of the game with just under 12 minutes remaining. At that point the Craig Zito show began as he scored the Gupps next three goals. " I think Craig was really scared of being demoted to Charlotte" stated Mike Halle in the post game interview "Iraq was hot but Charlotte in August is just crazy"  After scoring his 3rd goal Zito's flight to Charlotte was cancelled! "I want to stay up in Killingworth!" admitted a very confident Zito. The final nail in the coffin was delivered by Guppies defenseman Dan Pequita with just 1:07 remaining.

Thursday night was by far the Guppies best performance all season. Back-up netminder Marc Crayton seems to have calmed down in his net over the past week. However, the Gupps look forward to the chance to play the Mad Dogs next week. The Dogs and Guppies face off next week at 8pm.   This game is SOLD OUT!!

SIDENOTES:

- Joe Linskey and Brian Mulcahy were Healthy scratches on Thursday night.

- Both Linskey and Mulcahy are fighting for the "Brian Blair award" given to the Guppy each season that pays but doesn't play. Both players are sitting in strong performances.
