Mad Dogs Nip Guppies 9-8
Glastonbury, CT July 29, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2004 season.
July 29, 2004 - The Guppies faced off against a Strong Mad Dogs team for a battle for first place. The shorthanded Guppies lost their first meeting with the Mad Dogs 7-5 in their season opener. Thursday Night the Gupps were able to get the numbers up but they were still missing Joe Linskey in net. Marc Crayton was given the nod over Legolie for the second time this season. The Guppies struck first as Rob Murphy scored only seconds into the game. The Mad Dogs would quickly take the lead as they scored the next two goals. Murphy tied the game at Two until The Mad Dog's Sean Hawley gave the Dogs back the lead a few minutes later. Brian Kelly and Tim Poulin scored to give the Guppies the lead half way through the period. However the Dogs scored the next three goals with Hawley scoring twice in the Final minute of the Half. At the Half the Guppies were down by two and being severely out played.
In the Second Half the Gupps came
storming back as they took control of the play. Dan Pequita and Poulin would
score to tie the game. However, as they did all night, as soon as the Guppies
tied the game the Mad Dogs would score to take back the lead. Craig Zito scored
to tie the game at 7 with just over nine minutes remaining. Despite the
pressure on the Dogs net the Guppies couldn't score. With 4:16 remaining
the Dogs beat Marc Crayton with a high shot to the far post for the lead and
the win. The Guppies face off next week against the Tacos at 10pm!
SIDENOTES:
- Joe Linskey and Mike Halle were healthy scratches Thursday night.
- Brian Mulcahy had been a hold out for the Summer season signed a new contract only hours before the Guppies game vs the Mad Dogs. Brian had one assist in his return to the Guppies.
- Craig Zito made his Guppy debut on Thursday scoring one goal. With the signing of Craig Zito the Guppies sent Pete Fink back to Charlotte.
