Guppies Fold The Tacos 10-3

Glastonbury, CT July 15, 2004. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Summer 2004 season.

July 15, 2004 - The Killingworth Guppies got themselves back on the winning track on Thursday night as they faced off against the Tacos (I know I'm getting hungry too). The Guppies were again shorthanded as only five skaters were on the Guppies roster at game time. However, the Gupps controlled the play from the first faceoff. Marc Crayton (2-1-3) got the Guppies the early lead four minutes into the game. Rob Murphy (1-4-5) would add to the Guppies lead at the 11:37 mark. The Tacos ( I would love a Chalupa) scoring chance were scattered but when they had a chance Joe  Linskey was there with the answer.  Tim Poulin (3-2-5) scored his first of the night off a pass from Murphy. With just over a minute left in the First Half  Jason Zito (1-1-2) scored to give the Guppies the four goal lead. At the half the Guppies really had a hankering for some late night Taco Bell. It's a little known fact that Guppies love TB!!

The Guppies ordered up some Crunchy Tacos (Zito got a Burrito) as Crayton scored his second goal of the game in the opening minute of the second half.  The Tacos finally got to Linskey at the 15 minute mark but the Guppies answered as Brian Kelly (2-2-4) and Poulin scored the next three goals. Late in the Third the Tacos scored two quick goals (.07 seconds apart- now that's some quick drive thru service) in an attempt to get themselves back into the game. Kelly stopped the bleeding with just four minutes remaining as he walked in from the corner for his second of the night. The Tacos had several great chances to score as visions of Taco Bell's new extra value menu danced in the Guppies heads. However, Joe Linskey was solid down the stretch despite the Guppies defense going  "out to lunch". The Guppies would finish the scoring when Dave Armenia (1-0-1) banged in a rebound with 22 seconds remaining. The game finished in controversy when Murphy was speared in the stomach on the same play in which Armenia scored. The Game was called but the two teams lined up to shake hands. After the Game Joe used his VIP pass at the Berlin TB to get the team an order of Original Tacos. The Guppies face off next week against the Dead Goalies (go to the web site via the Link page) game time is at 8:00pm and tickets are still available.

SIDENOTES:

- Mike Halle and Dan Pequita were both healthy scratches Thursday night.

- A bench- The Guppies looked to start Thursday's game much like they started last weeks game with no bench. However a few minutes into the game reinforcements showed up as Murphy and Zito came strolling in.

-Kelly injured himself when he and a Tacos player went crashing into Linskey early in the Second half. Kelly is scheduled to meet with the team doctors early tomorrow at the Guppies practice facility in Clinton, CT.
