Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT May 6, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.
5/6/08- It seemed like old time Tuesday night at the Zrink as the Killingworth Guppies dominated the Ball Smashers for an impressive 11-3 victory. The Guppies found scoring from five different players and every Guppies player registered at least a point. Things looked bleak for our would be heros as they came in the game posting a five game losing streak and having lost leading scorer Keith Millen for the remainder of the season just a few days earlier. However, the Guppies came out swimming and had a new look, with some position changes for some players. The Gupps fell down 1-0 as the Ball Smasher scored an early Power Play goal. After the Smashers goal the two teams traded scoring opportunities for the next nine minutes of play, then it finally happened. The Guppies finally broke through and it led to a flury Guppie Goals. Tim Poulin (3-3-6), Rob Murphy (3-1-4), and Dan Pequita (2-2-4) all scored in a span three minutes to give the Guppies the 3-1 lead. The Smashers would score to make it 3-2 but the was before Murphy and then Jason Zito (1-1-2) scored late to make it 5-2 at the Half.
In the Second Half the Ball Smashers came out with some fight as Jim Miller scored a wrap around goal just over a minute in, making it a 5-3 game. However that was to be the last Smasher's highlight of the night as the Guppies offense took over. Brian Kelly (2-2-4) scored less than a minute after the Miller's tally as the Gupps regained the three goal lead. The Smashers had some great opportunites to get back into the game but Joe Linskey had the answers (it might be that new glove). The Guppies pulled out of reach as Pequita, Kelly, and Poulin scored four goals in a span of 2:52 of hockey. Opening up a 10-3 Guppies lead. Murphy would cap off the Guppies scoring, as he walked in on a breakaway late in the game. Some thought the Guppies might have placed a stamp on the season and Mailed it in after losing Millen and with the teams recent troubles. However the fish rose to the occassion and might have saved their season. In the post game interview Dan Pequita joked "Looks like all we needed to do was get rid of that Millen guy". he added "I'm only kidding Keith".
The Guppies face off again Wednesday night, 5/7/08, at 8pm vs the Fire Ants. The Guppies hope to build on this game as they make a push for the B- League Playoffs. Tickets are available! Also, Keith Millen will be signing autographs at the ZRink Pro Shop during the Half.
SIDE NOTES:
- Keith Millen is on the IR after having his appendix removed last week. .
- Crayton is still looking for his first goal of the season. Marc had a career high in goals last seaon, but has struggled this season. He looked to have his first goal of season as he walked in on a break away but the puck stop short of crossing the goal line. Keep shooting Cray it will come!
