Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT April 8, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.
04/08/08- The Guppies came out Tuesday night for their first "West Coast" game of the season. It became clear early that our beloved fish were suffering from some sort of Jet Lag, as the Snow Uncles took control early. The bad news for Joe Linskey is, when the Guppies start off slow, he's in for a busy night. The good news for the Guppies, Linskey came ready to play. Joe's biggest and best save came early in the first when a Brian Kelly (0-2-2) pass turned into a Uncle's 2-on-1. Linskey made a great glove save off a one timer that came across the low slot. However, for all his heroics, Linskey couldn't keep the Snow Uncles at bay all night. The Uncle's control the play and scored twice in a 4 minute span during the middle of the first half. "We just didn't move our legs tonight" Stated Guppies forward Dave Armenia. Keith Millen (2-1-3) seemed to be a little upset after the game "I'm here to score goals! There were several times tonight when I was wide open in the offensive zone, but, our defense couldn't get it out of our zone. It's very frustrating!" The Guppies couldn't find any offense and found themselves down at the Half 3-0!
In the Second Half the Snow Uncles continued to control the play, as the Fish were hard pressed to just control the puck "It (the Puck) was bouncing everywhere tonight, we just couldn't get it to settle" stated Rob Murphy (0-1-1). The Uncles seemed to have no problems with the puck and would score again midway through the half to make it 4-0! As the game wore on the Gupps tried mounting a come back, Kelly would hit a post but that's as close as they would get. To their credit the Fish kept on swimming and started to shoot from everywhere. Their efforts finally paid off with 1:43 remaining in the game, as Millen scored his first of the night. Twenty seconds later, Brian Mulcahy (1-0-1) would score to make it a two goal game. The Guppies kept coming, these fish just don't quit......it's a little known fact the Guppy is a resilient fish! Anyways, back to the game. The Guppies would pull Linskey for the extra attacker which translated into the Guppies 3rd goal of the game, with just .18 seconds remaining. The Guppies kept the extra attacker but it led to a an empty net goal for the Snow Uncles.
The Guppies face off against the Vipers next Tuesday (4/15/08) at 9pm. The Vipers are a young team that have moved up from the ZRink youth ranks. Just what the aging Guppies need for next week......yeah right!
SIDE NOTES:
- Guppies had a full Roster Tuesday night.
- The losses to the Ball Smashers and the Snow Uncles are the first back to back Guppie losses since the Fall 2005 season. Those defeats came at the hands of the Fire Ants 6-3 (10/25/05) and UConn 7-5 (11/1/05). Actually the Guppies went on to lose the game after that as well, ESPN 7-5 (11/08/05). It's the only three game losing streak in Guppies Team History. The Spring 2008 Guppies will look not to repeat history next week when they face off against the Vipers!
- The 11pm game is normally a welcomed time slot for the Guppies! The Guppies came into Tuesday nights game a perfect 10-0 when playing at 11pm! No wonder there are so many west coast fans!! The Guppies first 11pm game was on 4/7/2004, when they beat the Whalers 15-5!!
