Guppies Pick Apart ZRink Selects 5-3!

Glastonbury, CT March 18, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.

03/18/08- Tuesday night the Guppies got a chance to look into the future of Roller Hockey as they took on the ZRink 16 Selects. While Some of the Select players were older than 16, it was clear they were much younger than anyone on the Gupps roster.  While the Fish got a look into the future, the Selects learned a valuable lesson, While it's great to be young, sometimes it's better to have experience. A lesson that the Guppies were more than happy to teach. The Fish opened the scoring when Keith Millen scored his first of the night. The Selects followed the Gupps lead and tied the score with their first shot on net. (For those of you who are thinking you're reading last weeks wrap up which featured the Guppies vs WPI. Rest assured you are not! Linskey let in the first shot he faced again this week.....Nice work Joe) After Linskey's display in goaltending futility, the Gupps went back on the offense and it was Jason Zito who found the back of the net this time.  Soon after Millen scored his second of the night off a pass from Rob Murphy. The Selects fought back and managed to score the next two goals on some questionable shots......did we mention Linskey looked a little off?  Dan Pequita came to Linskey's rescue with just over a minute remaining to give the Guppies the 4-3 lead at the half.

In the Second Half, the goaltending got better for both teams but the penalties started to creep into the play. Zito scored the only goal of the half, his second of the night, after deflecting a Brian Kelly shot from the point. The Guppies got into some penalty trouble late as Pequita, Millen, and Murphy all earned trips to the sin bin. However, with Linskey securing the 30 pack obligations earlier in the game there were no worries for Guppie player's that might take that first penalty of the game. The Selects tried to mount a comeback and pulled their netminder in the final seconds of the game. Unfortunately for the youngsters, the Guppies experience held up and the fish swam to victory.

The Guppies return to action on 4/1 at 9pm vs the Ball Smashers! The Smashers and the Guppies have developed quite the rivalry over the past few seasons so, this promises to be a good game. Tickets are on sale now at the Killingworth Library and ZRink Box Office.

SIDE NOTES:

- Guppies had a full Roster Tuesday night, as Tim Poulin showed up for the Second Half.

- Joe Linskey earned the honor of purchasing the thirty pack again next week, as he let in a goal on the first shot he faced for the second straight game. We spoke with the Guppies Goaltending Coach Mr. Legolie looking for a comment. Legolie just seemed to stare at us then yelled something in French!

- Wanted! Youth.....Is it me or are the Guppies getting a little  too old? After last weeks game the Guppies only had 5 guys stay after for beers. While those 5 guys made an effort, the Guppies were left with 18 beers left in their 30 pack when they left for the night.  One Guppie was quoted as saying "I remember when we would kill the 30pack then go out for more! I guess fish don't drink as they get older?"
