Official Game Summary |
Glastonbury, CT May 13, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2008 season.
5/13/08- Tuesday night the Guppies went to the ZRink with an outside chance to make the B League Playoffs. However, after watching the ZRink Selects dispatch the Fire Ants (A much different looking Fire Ants team than the one the Guppies saw the week prior) they knew the playoffs were gone. Despite that fact the Guppies had to play the league leading Snow Uncles in their final game of the season. It was a tall order as the Guppies came into the game very short handed with some of their top players out of the lineup. Keith Millen is still recovering from surgery, Joe Linskey was out with an injury, Jason Zito was on Vacation, and Rob Murphy had a soft ball game. Guppies management was able to call up Jon Stevenson and Britt Miglietta to help fill some spots but it wouldn't be enough. The Snow Uncle went on to score 5 goals in the First Half and controlled most of the play. The Gupps managed some scoring chances but the Uncle's net minder made some great saves.
In the Second Half the Snow Uncle increased their lead to 7-0 before Stevenson scored the Guppies lone goal. Dan Pequita celebrated the Guppies' goal by raising is stick as the Guppies' bench jumped with excitement. "Hey, we didn't want to get shutout!" stated Brian Mulcahy "We've never been shut out and we really didn't want this to be the night that happened" The Guppies avoided the dreaded shut out but there was still the chance that the Uncle's could mercy the Guppies. Despite the short bench the fish were able to keep the Uncle's at bay to also avoid the Mercy Loss.
So, after missing the Playoffs for only the 2nd time since 1995, the Guppies will look to see where they want to play next season. If there's a Zrink A League this Summer the Guppies will contemplate staying in the B-League. If not, the Gupps might be moving on down to the C-League. Stay tuned!!
SIDE NOTES:
- Keith Millen and Joe Linskey are on the IR. Jason Zito was a Healthy Scratch
- Tuesday Night was Britt Miglietta's first game as a Guppy. (She did play in the 06 Xmas Tourney for the Gupps) Unfortunately, the Gupps weren't able to give much help in her Killingworth debut.
-In or Out : Brian Mulcahy notified the Guppies front office that if the Fish move to C-League, which plays on Thursday nights, he might not be able to play because of work obligations. It would be hard to lose Mulcahy who has become a fan favorite in Killingworth and is also well respected in the Guppies locker room
- The Spring 2008 Season Page will be up in the coming weeks. See which Guppies' wins the most coveted hardware in all of sport!
