Linskey Sucks, Guppies Win 15-10!
Glastonbury, CT May 21, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2006 season.
May 21, 2006 - My mother once told me "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all ". If I was to use this train of thought for the Guppies game on Sunday afternoon then this article would already be finished. Luckily for myself and Guppies Nation I never really listen to my mother. The Killingworth Guppies came off their three week mid season vacation on Sunday afternoon and they played like it, As the Fish started the game very slow. TheGuppies looked very sluggish in their play, however, Joe Linskey was by far the worst of this school of fish. When the Seawolves scored on their first shot on net I felt bad for Linskey as the defense broke down in front of him. I felt bad because it would be his team leading fourth 30pack of the season. However, as the Seawolves second shot went in the net, I became concerned. Linskey would bounce back and make a save on his third shot of the game! I thought what a tough start but he'll bounce back, then I watched the fourth shot beat Joe! "What a an awful started for Linskey!" Then the fifth shot would again elude the ever shrinking Linskey! "What the F---! I wondered, if that was a soccer net Linskey was trying to defend. Nope, upon further review it was a regulation hockey net. It was the beginning of a classic goaltending battle in which both goalies were determined to LOSE! Linskey had a comfortable lead spotting the Seawolves an early 4-0 lead. It was obvious, that with Linskey being as useful as a blind seeing eye dog that the Guppies would have to go into their tight defense scheme better known as the "Crayton Defensive System" The CDS earned it's name for the tight defense the Fish would play back when Marc Crayton, the Guppies former #2 goalie, would get the nod in net. "It's something we haven't run since Crayton was moved to offense full time" stated Guppies defenseman Mike Halle "However, we really needed to run it tonight" Despite Linskey the Guppies were able to stay close in the game scoring three goals in the final three minutes of the half. At the half the Seawolves were in control leading 6-4.
The Guppies would start the second half by scoring :34 seconds in, making it a 6-5 game. However, Linskey wouldn't let that stand as only .40 seconds later he would let in his worst goal of the night (Trust me people their were A LOT of bad goals tonight but this one tops them all!) Former Guppie Sean Howley would float a weak backhander past an out of positioned Linskey. I was following Howley across the dek when I looked down for a second, I never saw the puck go by me!" The Fans and even teammates started to turn against Joe. "The fans started chanting Legolie, Legolie! I was actually looking down the bench for the air bump" explained Dan Pequita. Of course, Legolie (who was last seen working as a stock boy at the Newington 7/11) was nowhere to be found on the Killingworth bench. In a post game interview Linskey seemed to be delusional about what happened "It was a real defensive struggle tonight, a real barn burner!" WHAT!?!? Many in the Killingworth press corps were left wondering if the normally weird Linskey had finally lost his mind! Not to be lost in the awful play of Linskey is the fact that Jason Zito (6-1-7) lead the Guppies comeback. Zito would light the lamp Five times in the second half alone to secure the victory for the Fish. The Guppies showed once again that despite their goaltending they can win games.
The Guppies finish the regular season Tuesday night, when they face off against the surging Ball Smashers. Game time is 9pm and the 're are a limited amount tickets still available.
