Guppies Smoke Fire Ants 11-7!
4/25/2006- The battle for B-2 Puck supremacy raged on Tuesday night as the Guppies and Fire Ants faced off for the top spot in league. The Guppies came out flying as Dan Pequita (2-1-3) wasted no time (actually it was 9 seconds) scoring to give the Fish the 1-0 lead. However the Ants had an answer only .51 seconds later tying the game on their first shot. Ding, Ding, Ding....That's another 30 pack for our good friend Joe Linskey. For those of you keeping count (I know I am!) That's three 30 packs in the past FOUR games. Looking good Joe and thanks for everything! Mid way through the First Half the Guppies took control of the game as Jason Zito (2-0-2) scored to give the Guppies the lead for good. Marc Crayton (2-0-2), who has struggled finding the net as of late, scored his first two goals of the season. "It was good to see Cray score tonight, I was getting worried that we might have to get him a soccer net soon" stated Guppies forward Tim Poulin. Keith Millen (2-1-3) also scored two goals in the first half to give the Guppies a comfortable 6-2 lead late. However, these are the Guppies and with Linskey in net no lead is too big! The Fire Ants would score two goals (one of which was short handed) in the final .50 seconds to close the gap and breath new life into the game.
In the opening moments of the Second Half the Guppies would stop the bleeding scoring a Power Play goal as Tim Poulin (1-2-3) buried a pass from Mike Halle (0-1-1). Things only got better for the fish as Dave Armenia (2-0-2) crashed the net and fired a rebound into the back of the Ants net. However, Armenia wasn't done. Only a minute later, Armenia was again in front of the net when he fired in his second goal of the game. The Guppies would make it 10-4 when Zito scored his second of the night on a great passing play with Rob Murphy (0-3-3) and Brian Kelly (0-3-3). Only seconds later Kelly would help Matt Zuba and the Ants get their fifth goal of the night when Zuba bounced a shot off of Kelly's skate and past Linskey. When asked about the play after the game Kelly seemed pleased "Anytime I can mess with Linskey's GAA and it doesn't effect the game it's a plus!" Linskey seemed to take it well "I've come to expect these things when this certain player is out there". Pequita would score his second of the night to make it 11-5 before the Ants scored two goals in the final minutes of the game.
With the win the Guppies (5-1-0) step over the Fire Ants (5-2-0) for first place in B2. The Guppies hope to continue their winning ways as they face off against the Canadiens on Sunday afternoon at 5pm. This is family night! - No word from the executives over at the UPN on whether Tim Poulin landed a gig on "America's Next Top Model" stay tuned
- Jason Zito caught fire while playing up in Montreal last week. However, he didn't leave his hot hand at the border. Zito scored two great goals for the Guppies in Tuesday night's victory.
