Guppies Out Swim Sea Wolves 4-1!

Glastonbury, CT April 11, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2006 season.

4/11/2006- The Guppies faced off Tuesday night against last season B League Champion Sea Wolves. It was a chance for Guppies fans to see a familiar face as former Guppie Sean Howley is playing with the Wolves this season. The Guppies took control early and went at the Wolves. The fish would strike first when Rob Murphy (0-3-3) sent Brian Kelly (2-1-3)on a breakaway with a hail mary  pass up the middle. Kelly would score with a shot to high right side of the net. The Guppies kept rolling when Murphy found Kelly again and sent him and Keith Millen (1-1-2) in on a two on one. Kelly slid a pass over to Millen who fired a hard low shot into the Wolves net.  It remained 2-0 late into the first half when, the Wolves, Jesse Edwards deflected a great shot from Sean Howley over the shoulder of Guppies netminder Joe Linskey.  However, the fish answered only seconds later when Kelly scored his second of the night on a hard low slap shot to the lower left corner of the net. At the half the Guppies were in control thanks to their timely goals, solid defense, and strong goaltending.

In the Second Half the two teams exchanged scoring opportunities but neither team could find the back of the net. Jason Zito, sealed the game for the Guppies when he scored the goal of the night, deflecting the puck off the Wolves netminder from behind the goal line. The Wolves made several attempts to break back into the game but the Guppies defensive trio of  Dan Pequita (0-1-1), Mike Halle, and Murphy were the difference down the stretch. Linskey was quoted after the game "I tell them all the time, take Kelly off Defense and we'll be fine. That guy just sucks on Defense, then again he's not that good on Offense either".

The Guppies next game is against the Fire Ants on  4/25 at 9pm. The Ants beat up on the fish in their first meeting 7-3! However, the Fire Ants lost earlier in the night to the BallSmashers 6-5. This creates an exciting set up for the Guppies next game, A battle for first place as both teams are now 4-1-0.  Tickets for this one will go fast as the Ants are always a strong and talented opponent.
