Knuckle Pucked: Guppies Beat District 5, 4-2!

Glastonbury, CT March 28, 2006. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2006 season.

3/28/2006- Tuesday night was the Guppies first "West Coast" game of the season as the start time was 11pm (eastern) 8pm (pacific). It's a sacrifice yes, but one the Guppies are willing to make to keep Guppies Nation's left coast fans happy. The Guppies opponent however, has some strong west coast ties themselves. District 5, a team inspired by the Mighty Duck movies, has many fans from the greater LA and Orange County Areas. It was there, that an inspired and renamed (Ducks) D5 team lead by Gordon Bombay played in the Good Will Games. Beating such Hockey powerhouse like Trinidad and Iceland!! Just imagine what they could have done if they faced the always tough Arubian Hockey team.

Back to Tuesday night, The Guppies squared off against a strong D-5 team as they looked to get back on the winning track. The Fish came swimming and took control of the play early. Dave Armenia (1-0-1) would give the Guppies the one goal lead as he finished off a great passing play which included the efforts of Jason Zito (0-1-1) and Rob Murphy (2-1-3). However, only :24 seconds later D5 would tie the game at one on only their second shot of the game. Yeah, second shot of the game.....for those scoring at home. Please mark down Mr Linskey for his second 30 pack of the season and second in as many weeks. Looking Good Joe!! After the tying goal D5 took control of the game and finally took the lead with 9:40 remaining as they scored on a 2-1 opportunity. Murphy would tie the game two when he took a pass from Keith Millen (0-2-2) and beat the D-5 netminder through the five hole. Murphy would score again off a Tim Poulin (0-1-1) pass with less than a minute remaining in the half to give the Guppies the 3-2 lead at the half.

In the Second Half the two teams went back an forth with the scoring opportunities, however, both goalies were equal to the task. Holding onto the one goal lead the Guppies would have to kill off two penalties before Dan Pequita (1-0-1) scored to give the Fish some much needed breathing room. The Guppies would hold onto the lead and secure the hard fought victory.

SIDENOTES:

- The Guppies were all account for Thursday night as everyone was able to make the game. Maybe we should play @11pm more often?

- "Millen Time" which is a cross on the Miller Beer ads (Miller Time) and Shaq/Kobe lead Lakers (Prime Time) is all about Guppies forward Keith Millen.
